Recommended Test CD's
Wow, thanks for the replies and it stemmed what i thought was a great idea. Since most of you are going to Dave's and leaving the Minnesotan out of it (by proximity) it would be really cool to assemble an SQ test and setup CD and share it. I'd be glad just to receive one and would be willing to pay for the blanks or do the sharing burn for the VA group. The annual SWVA TeamSSaudio.com meet Compact Disc: 1

Aha, thanks Squeak I did get the message about the analog units but wasn't sure what were and looked at ebay first when I saw the grouping I got excited and thought "screw passives". Will look for digi's and your recommendations. My problem with the H701 is that by the time I pay $300 for one, I might as well just get a new headunit that does all the above and time align.

Reduced laptop battery life
Sounds like a laptop. What sort of battery is it? If it is a Lithium Ion that shouldn't happen, otherwise the other batteries seem to be sort of disposal especially if you buy a pc with a limited warranty that doesn't cover the batteries. I have had about 10 different laptops and within a year on all of them the battery life was reduced significantly. Also, your CD drive uses more battery than the rest of the computer....you can also set your settings to run the PC with less resources on the battery which will prolong the life.

DIY component choices
I have a set of the Alpine tweets you speak of, $60 each from pacparts.com, they will say they are backordered but you get them in 10 days. Being I just got back from a trip I hope to do a good portion of the install this weekend. From reading reviews and specs, these are most likely made by ScanSpeak model D2904/60001 (the Alpine part is D2904/610001 with identical parameters accross the board). As a reference the Scan-Speak sells for $180 ea. These would be great IMO (from what I have read) with a set of ScanSpeak 5.25" Revealators. The mid from the Alpine set might also be the Rev, but I haven't looked that deep as I went with a 7" for more punch on the upright bass. JF I know you are working on your doors, but have you bought your components yet? Eager to know...

Amp Ratings by fuses
just reading ratings *CORRECTION* 2 x 25amp... so 50 amp total... Still not A/B...or your gains are pretty much off or have minimal dynamics in what you are listening to.

Excellent, this is now getting helpful. I don't really want to replace my deck.... Any possibility for clarification on ones that are good to get? Adding to the DX-28?

technical discussion of highpass filtering.
uh, if you want people to comment on your "theory" perhaps stating it mathematically since it is "simple" here would help. show us the circuit and the math that shows 2V....

Welcome to the IHoP
I know the feeling, I ran a 68 Ford 390 (bored 0.60") with a .55" cam lift and enough duration to make any Harley jealous with straight super-comp headers and no pipes period. Loud enough to make tools shake in the back seat, could still hear my 3 1500w JBL's at the time, sort of. A noise ordinance and fix it ticket stopped my fun though. Wish I was still 15 again!

Once more, another NooB.

Car audio as a source of Visual Rhetoric! Input...
Timing is everything as well. Not that it is related to car audio, but the big buzz spending word in Detroit (or Japan...) is Sound Quality. In this case of course it is to make the car not sound cheap, tinny, and so on. I am actually in Detroit doing a bit of vibration consulting right now for this exact reason. In my previous job I sold Bruel & Kjaer Sound Quality Analyzers. The only problem I have with your topic is the word "lifestyle". I do choose to spend a lot of time thinking about this sort of thing, but it is still a hobby. Now of course, if you (we) are obsessive compulsive then that hobby is sort of a lifestyle, but in this case I would guess that SQ is more of societal push being taken to a new extreme in its context. As an example, everything you buy today they think about SQ on. From dishwashers, printers, lawnmowers, fans, electric toothbrushes..... Before I ramble more, I will stop.

what a day!!!
True, but real people don't buy those. Some do spend life savings on cars like the GT. The house deal we did on Supra's and Cruisers as well. Mostly because in July '97 I sold a Supra Turbo and 3 Landcruisers. They didn't like writing me the check...never understood that since in the previous year we hadn't sold a Supra and only 2 Cruisers the whole year. I always see it, when the sales guy makes a wad, his company makes more!

what a day!!!
True, but most won't get double it either. Holy crap! At $150k it is an amazing deal on a supercar, but for $290k (if I had it to blow) I would buy something else. Congrats on the sale though, and getting f'd on only a $2k flat. I used to sell Toyota's and made more on Landcruisers...

What active crossover are you using?
Had planned on going passive, but want to look at all of the options. It is hard to find good information on crossovers on any forum. Would love to assemble a shopping list to compare and thought I would see if you would reply with what you are using. Adding an approximate cost would be great too. Thanks!
