  1. so M5, are you suggesting a baffle instead of rings? I'm confused to as how else i would cover more surface area.
  2. So after ordering parts and doing some small work here and there since August 09, i finally decided to start this build log. It's my first real build. Everything else prefab boxes and no electrical upgrades needed. (two set-ups off of a Crunch p1100.2. my favorite set-up was 2 12" mtx tr55 in mtx ported box). So this current build is a big, giant step for me. All the equipment is in my signature. It's my first box build and i went off of some dimensions that i received here on the forum. Should be around 32 hz (home depot doesn't do exact cuts!!). I wasn't entirely sure what to do for bracing... If i'm not pleased with the sound of this box, i'm more than open to making another one. Just wanted to try it first on my own. Right now i'm being held up by, of all things, ring terminals. I posted a thread listing the horrors that has been this project. Here's the link if anyone is interested Is This Normal? - SSA Car Audio Forum I have all the products i need, i'm just waiting to install. Box is carpeted so i have to get new pics of that. Installing the components is the next hurdle for me, another first for me. So on to pics!! Tried to capture everything. theres how the sub came it's STILL sitting like this in my room, after 6 months. sub next to me, yes, I'm a young buck. picture of my truck!! (the tires are a joke) Head unit!! the battery i didn't really want Had no idea what i was doing here with the bracing... double baffle wish me luck!!
  3. I'm horribly sorry if this isn't the section to do this sort of thing.
  4. man i want that challenge to go down sooo bad. I don't mind being proved wrong and having M5 loose, i just want it to happen.
  5. I don't want to have the "baddest ass system"... i want to have a system that makes me happy. If there is a guy on my left who has a better SQ setup and a guy on my right who can hit 180db... i don't really care that my system isn't as good as theres. Sure, i'll walk over and see whats up and what they are running. But i don't get my self esteem and my hard-ons from having a better system than everyone else when i pull into a parking lot. I've been reading you're bickering with M5 for about 20 minutes now on different threads. I usually try to avoid conflict because my knowledge is limited. But sense I've read all the arguing I would have to agree with M5. Stating your achievements over and over and over again is rather annoying. It's in your signature. We can see it. And you often fail to answer M5's questions... i don't remember what thread it was... it was the one where Impious chimed in. I have no personal experience from them but they both seem extremely helpful and intelligent when it comes to this stuff. I mean, on the forum homepage they hold the top two spots for most supportive. They know their stuff. I would like to say the same to you... but in my opinion, you haven't exactly proven that. You have said some good, helpful things. But then alot of the time some dumb-ass comments come out of your mouth. Like the whole notes below 25hz in daily music thing. Just take M5's comments. Sure, he doesn't exactly have Santa Claus like cheer, but he's got knowledge. And i feel like you do as well but you're hiding it. Either that or whoever really set-up your truck has the knowledge. I respect your competitive spirit. But gloating about winning just makes you seem immature. And i definitely respect your relationship to Blues car audio. Better luck on your truck. My explorer back window had a water leak itself (funny how that happens when someone breaks your rear window ), luckily no equipment was inside. If there are any comps near Michigan i would love and come check out your truck.
  6. anyone know a price estimate on the x's? like anyone remember what the prices were last time they were available?
  7. Just giving Fi some love for bringing back the X line! Might have to get some for the lady friend.
  8. oh?? then I'm even more excited to see the pics! Maybe you should put some up today of this custom jeep.
  9. Yeah =[ sorry to hear the bad news. Wranglers aren't the best sub vehicles. Just mounting the amp on the box would be extremely difficult to do well without the amp getting destroyed. Good luck man
  10. Just don't mount to the box. Its just a bad idea.
  11. X2 to what jay-cee said with the mustang trunks. It was hard to fit anything into the trunk of my 2009 and the openings on the 2010's are even smaller.
  12. ohhhhh water leaks would pisssss me off. and thanks for the support!! but USPS kinda did what i think UPS did with my battery... there was two envelopes of the same size. one on the outside which looked really good BUT it had no shipping label... then i opened it and there was another envelope which was the same size. It had a HUGE rip along one entire side which was tapped up all around the envelope. then the shipping label was on the back on that inner package... i like jay-cee's idea of praising the car audio gods!! hommmmmmm thank-you saint nicholas and scott over at Fi. hommmmmmm thank-you priest Jacob for you boss amps. hope that works... ha
  13. yeah, i just hate the fact that the one thing that is slowing my down is stupid ring terminals...
  14. So ever since i've been trying to set up my new system (see tag), i've had one set back after another. 1.) My BTL magnets were help up in customs (normal) and it took a little longer to get to me. Not a problem, at all. Didn't get under my skin and i was actually very surprised to receive a phone call from Scott on about the 8th business day explaining the troubles. And he included a free sticker pack and shirt!! Great great great guys over at Fi 2.) The battery i wanted, Kinetik HC2400 was out of stock... EVERYWHERE. there was a thread on SSA about it and i chimed in my findings. i waited for about 2 months until i finally decided to go ahead and get another battery. So i order Shuriken bt-120, and when it FINALLY comes to my door (i'll explain that shipping nightmare under 4) i get an e-mail from sonicelectronix saying that the Kinetik is in stock. The day the shuriken gets to my door i get that e-mail. after waiting so long for that battery to be back in stock it decides that day to reach sonicelectronix 3.) Shipping from SonicElectronix for the shuriken and a Boston Acoustic Pro60se system was from hell. Evidently for any order over $500 you have to do a credit card verification thing; which i did not know about. Perhaps it's in their terms of agreement, but seriously? They couldn't have just had a pop-up screen of when i made the order to tell me about the verification? So 6 business days later when Sonics still hasn't given my stuff to UPS, i decide to e-mail them just to clarify that they received my order and all was well. then 2 business days later they finally tell me that i have to do the verification. whether this was in response to my e-mail or it just normally takes them 8 business days to tell me i need to do a verification, i don't care. Either pisses me off. Especially because i have the feeling that if i didn't email them, it would have taken longer to know that i had to do this verification. And when verification time comes, they look up the name of the cardholder and access old public records and ask you questions... well guess what? their "system" wasn't working so they couldn't do that. instead i had to print off this form, fill out the paper work and then scan in a picture of my credit card and driver license onto the page from sonics, then e-mail that page back to sonics. then it takes them 2 business days to process that verification and finally get UPS the package. 10 business days. 2 weeks. 4) then the shipping was all going good to my knowledge. i was told it was one big package. when the package got to Ohio, the UPS tracking thing told me that the address label had been torn off/ripped so the address couldn't be read and they were going to get my address back from sonics. Which they did the next day which and i thought that was excellent. Then i got a big ol' package at my door a few days later and i was very excited!! only to find out that a whole bunch of shit went wrong. First off, there was no Boston Acoustic anything inside that box. only battery. Secondly, in this Huge box (about as big as the one the BTL came in) was the box for the shuriken and then under that, a old box that had been wet and all torn up. The box from shuriken inside the UPS box was also wet on the corners. After some head scratching, i discovered that the ripped up and folded box under the shuriken box was an old UPS box. What had happened (i'm pretty sure) was that UPS sent my battery to the wrong place and it sat outsides someones house and got all wet and then UPS got it back and sent it to me. I got the Boston Acoustics a few day later and everything was right with them. So... if the shuriken really did go to the wrong place which im sure it did, where the HELL did they send the boston's to make them come 2 days after the shuriken? ha. I would have appreciated knowing that it was going to be shipped in two separate boxes and what had really happened. 5) So then i ordered more stuff and had everything i needed so i finally had a need to hook up my alternator which i had for 3 months. only to discover that for the 2004 explorer, ford decided 1/2 way through the production to switch the bolt pattern on their alts. Needless to say, i didn't know that and Iraggi didn't inform me of that so i called them (dominik is his name i think) and he knew exactly what i was talking about. I paid to get it shipped back to him, he paid to have it shipped to me. The whole transaction took... probably 7 business days. 6) so now i was doing some soldering and getting everything set up, and i discovered i needed two more fuses and some more ring terminals. so i hop on the knukonceptz webstie and ordered some. three days later (today!!) the shipment comes. and guess what? my 8 ring terminals aren't anywhere in sight. so i just emailed them. i'm not trying to be impatient, i'm just... fed-up with all the mishaps that have happen. Has stuff along these lines happened to you guys? (beside the BTL thing, i shouldn't even include that, it's more of a shout-out to the great customer service those folks do) And some stuff went normally as planned too. My saz-3000d from db-r came as planned. my wiring from knukonceptz came as planned. my battery isolator came as planned. unfortunately... those are the only things that have gone as planned. so please, share with me if anything like this has happened to you. sorry for writing a book
  15. how do i attach the MDF rings to my car???
  16. just wait. especially to the guy with the 2 BL's coming. if something is wrong with your order, scott or nick WILL contact you. Scott contacted me (through phone call) about my order because their large order of magnets got held up in customs. You'll be fine
  17. can anyone give me a time estimate for this install? the power, rem, rca's, and ground wires for the amp are already run. i need to put in the speakers, crossovers, and run the speaker cables. I want to get it done later tonight but i can't drive my car with no door panel if i don't finish. how long did it take you guys to do it? also, any response on the crossover location question? and i have to install sound deadening on the doors as well!
  18. yeah i'm going to go with resin, i found some in the garage. so anyone, how many rings should i use? just one? or as many as i can fit?
  19. i'll be heading to the hardware today =] sounds like a great idea. thanks!!
  20. oh Jay-cee that is a very very important aspect.. so where else could i mount them if not there?? and i would like to use MDF cause i have some extra laying around.. ha can i just.. wrap it plastic?? or does that not work? something tells me it doesn't. ha but the cutting board material is a great idea! thanks!
  21. okay thats what i thought about the rings.. how many? should i use as many as i can without having the speaker bulge out of the kick panel? and thats what i thought about the tweets, is there any special place they should be pointed? to center of vehicle? center of front seats? left one to driver and right one towards passenger?
  22. So i was trying to find some good information about how to properly install components. I was reading through build logs (including Shizzzon's 25 page one) and every time it came to their set-ups, it seemed as if they gave only 1/2 the information. I have a Boston Acoustic Pro 60se set i would like to use as my front stage. I also have damplifier pro from Second Skin. My question is rather elementary and i apologize for that... but what's the best way to put them in? I would like to avoid the speaker pod approach. I've heard so many different things. Should i make a 3/4" MDF ring and mount the speakers to those? I just honestly have no clue here. And tweeters should be mounted in A pillar, right? surface mount or flush mount? or should they be right there with the woofer? Does crossover location matter? any help is greatly appreciated. they will be powered by a Alpine 3522s until i can afford a SAX125.2. thanks alot! oh!!!!! also something that came to my mind... i was EXTREMELY surprised when i came to the "how to" section and found that there wasn't a pinned page of "how to build a subwoofer box". I think that information would be extremely helpful and wouldn't take one of the masters here too long to create. I would do so myself, but seeing that i've only built one box... i don't think i would give the best information. Just a simple guide of how thick of wood to use, how to do bracing, when bracing is necessary, t-nuts, polyfill, silicone sealant, maybe even resin. I know i would have greatly appreciate it when i built my box which i made a FEW mistakes on. ha.
  23. +1 to the knukonceptz their terminals are super easy to use, as the 1/0 gauge terminals i buy from hardware stores are often not big enough. HOWEVER, the knukonceptz ones are a little weak... i wouldn't use the terminals to do the big 3 as all the vibration going on in there. but for everything else, they are my favorite ones! and for their price, they are a steal! 2 1/0 gauge terminals at my hardware runs me $10.00!!!
  24. oh man, you're asking someone on THIS forum to vouch for a sundown amplifier? okay so when i was choosing an amp my responses were pretty much 20 people saying sundown and a few people saying some random brands. this forum is absolutely full of sundown lovers. its the sole reason i purchased mine. Sundowns do rated power and are good quality amplifiers. I haven't even used mine yet but i can still recommend it from what i've read from other people. I would recommend their amps to anyone; as long as it fits their application that is. so sure! go buy yourself a saz-1000D
  25. i'm not too sure if i would expect to get $350 for that set up... I, and anyone, can get it new for about $400-$415. Personally, i wouldn't buy it used at $350. and i think i know what you're talking about with the ipod interface. there are some problems... but i still think it's very good. unfortunately i have no experience with the pioneer so i can't help there.
