What I have now:

2006 toyota corrolla

Cadence TXA1000D (1000rms @ 1 ohm)

I have about 6.5ft^3 airspace before driver and port displacement

I want one ported sub ( a 15" or prefferably an 18" if I have enough airspace after port and driver displacement)

I'm undecided whether to go with SSD, Q, or BL with my airspace and power.

This will be for a daily driver with an occasional trip to local competitions for fun, so a little on the SPL side.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Beau

15" BL..

If you have a 1000w rms I would say go with an ssd or Q. If you had 1500-1800w rms, then I would go with a BL.

Standard Q for a little more depth, or a BL with pole chamfer for a solid hitting daily driver.

Standard Q for a little more depth, or a BL with pole chamfer for a solid hitting daily driver.

Now thats helpful information.....recomendations for ALL THREE..lol

First off...I think i've decided on doing a single 18". What i'm reading is that the BL is geared more for SPL than the Q series. But it was brought up that I may be lacking in power with only 1000 watts to a BL. (Wow...i remember when a 500watt rms amp was "big"). Which sub would be more efficient with my available power? (ie. get louder in similar sized enclosure with only 1000 watts) And will 6.5ft^3 be enough "rough" airspace to do a ported enclosure for an 18"? I'm estimating about 5.5 cubes after port and driver displacement.

If thats not enough airspace i'll drop down to a 15" but the question stays the same of which will get louder with 1000 watts.

Thanks

Beau

I'm sorry for the questions but I'm really tired of paying retail prices locally for crap. But at least I can hear and compare that crap in person before buying. I've never bought a sub that I had never listened to before so please understand my silly questions.

now with that said..id do the Q...

two more questions.

Do I need the BP power option?

and

Credit Card OK?

I hate waiting for money orders

I actually already ordered two 15" kicker Comp VR's but the place I ordered from didn't take American Express. Guess that turned out to be a good thing......i'd be stuck with those.

Well... I seem to run against the grain on this one then... with 5.5 cuft after port and driver displacement I wouldnt choose the Q. It would peak in the 50-60 Hz range even when tuned to 30Hz. To me itd act a little odd and less the optimal. The Q18s like larger enclosures in general. Its going to be VERY hard to get enough port behind the 18" tuned low enough plus driver displacement to only eat up 1 cuft.

With the BL18 (standard with only pole chamfer) itll work smoother with 5.5 cuft tuned to 33Hz than the Q would. I could tweak the suspension a little to make it work slightly better as well. Or even an SSD18 with the copper coil and BP option would make for a better choice with 1000W in that space. Tune either as low as you can with decent port area (30-33Hz) and theyll work well.

Thanks,

Scott

I CAN DO IT!!

I took some cheap plywood and built "mock" boxes to see what I can squeeze in the trunk. I can get 6ft^3 tuned to 29hz with 50in^2 port area. That airspace is after figuring double paneled sides, after port and driver displacement, a coat of fiberglass resinon the inside with polyfill stuck in it ( I was told this helps slightly), and enough bracing to keep everything together. I guess for me..that should seal the deal on the 18" Q. I'd like to mount the sub and port back but, I may have to mount the sub facing up and the port firing to the rear. It depends on how deep the "basket" is to clear the contours of the box. Can someone give me a measurement from the mounting flange (where meets the box) to the bottom of the basket (right before the magnet). doesn't have to be exact...

Thank you

Beau

I love Fi's abillity to customize their subs!

If you are that tight on space, you can mount the sub inverted which will give you a little more internal volume.

Maybe you could get the basket refinished in some sort of really cool color.

Inverted, it would definately not fit. The box will be notched and stepped to clear different things in the trunk. I'm really squeezing every inch out of my trunk and still keep enough space in front of the port to keep it from being obstructed.
