Posted August 25, 200718 yr Anybody have an idea how the 12" icon will sound for rock in and enclosure tuned this high or have any suggestions for an enclosure/tunning made for rock/metal. I read this woofer gets real low but was wondering if i could build another enclosure to swap out just for rock and metal.
August 25, 200718 yr my enclosure is tuned ~34hz, and 2ft^3 net for a 12 ICON. it does a great job on rock in that enclosure/tuning. this thing is meant for the lows, but should perform fine in a higher tuned application. my suggestion is throw one in a low tuned box and beef up the midbass/range area of your system and you'll be a very happy camper.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

August 27, 200718 yr Admin Kent is right, you can tune a little higher if you like, but 34 is a good starting point. Personally, I would make a quick sealed box in the .8-1.2 range and see how you like it. If you want to let its output potential to be set free for daily usage, build a 2.1-2.5 box in the 34-39hz range. I think we need to build a higher tuned test box for people, but the majority of people that are looking at the ICON, or own the ICON, love it ported in the low 30's. Smooth roll off, with strong bottom end and little to no peaks.
August 27, 200718 yr I don't think any sub in any enclosure tuned to 45hz will sound good with rock, terrible in fact. If you do go ported please tune lower.
