The title says it. A single 12 or a single 15 Q? I mostly listen to rock, but i throw in some rap and blues too. (tool, bullet for my valentine, all rap) I'm not sure what the main difference(s) are w/ 12's and 15's soundiwse are. Help? Thanks.

For SQ the determining factor will really be if your front stage can actually keep up with the 15. As for the differences, the 15 is larger, needs a larger box, and has more output.

GF has a 15" Q in her car in a ported box, 3.5^3 @ 32Hz. I was never very happy with it, always sounded boomy/muddy, so she always had the remote gain knob almost all the way down. I had literally spent around 20+ hours trying to tune her system.

Cut to the present. I removed her Pio HU and installed my old eXcelon with 4.5v pre outs and the diff is night and day. The sub is twice as loud, but more importantly the bass is very controlled and accurate sounding. Her Crystal comps also sound tons better and match up well with the Q.

She listens to a lot of Tool, Pantera, Diana Krall, etc... so a pretty wide range of music. The Q sounds excellent on everything she throws at it. I popped in some newer rap stuff and it literally shook her car to death, but was far from boomy, just hard hitting low bass.

I'd say the 12 or 15 would work out very nicely, with the 15 having more output if/when you need it. Kick drums have a very nice punch to them.

I always knew this sub was capable of way more than it was doing and finally with the HU swap it's living up to it's rep...
