Posted October 19, 200717 yr someone please explain what "Active Front Stage" is without biteing off my head please...
October 19, 200717 yr Acitve = using electronic crossovers.Front stage = an oxymoron referring to the drivers located to the front of the listener.
October 19, 200717 yr Author so if i use the Kove audio Aphex Ax1 Signal processor i have an Active front stage ?!!!?what about the crossovers in the doors just before the componets ?
October 19, 200717 yr Active = Only using electronic crossovers.Im not familiar with that "signal processor" link me if you want my opinion.
October 19, 200717 yr so if i use the Kove audio Aphex Ax1 Signal processor i have an Active front stage ?!!!?what about the crossovers in the doors just before the componets ?i thought you said you have an alpine 9887. that unit is capable of processing a 2-way active stage + subwoofer. no need for an external processor if you want a 2-way setup.i guess i dont understand.can someone explaine it in such a way as an SPL nut can get it ? without the sarcassim ? i thought it was a nice setup ?i lisened to you before and my HU problem was resolved... i went with the Alpine 9887cant remember if i thanked you or not:) but if not i can get it i just have never been involved to know what is required of an SQ system.

October 19, 200717 yr All you'd need to do to use the Alpine for active is to have four channels of amplification...one pair for the tweets, the other for the midbasses. Instead of front/rear preouts, you'd have high frequency/low frequency preouts instead.

October 20, 200717 yr Yes, it will sound way worse at first until you start to understand and tweak the settings at which time you will have a way of customizing your speakers to sound better than in their stock format both in staging and response. The more you play around, the more the deadening and installation will make a difference. You will then get addicted to shopping for better drivers once you have optimized what you currently have costing you more money and time on the net, but is it worth it?? Yep.
October 20, 200717 yr Admin LB this would be a great way to improve the overall sound in your explorer and maybe get to see things from the side of the SQ guys too.

As in I dont' need to buy a seperate unit??I can use one pair or RCA's as the highs and the other as the mids?I'm just trying to clarify.. If this is the case I know what my deck will be.I also get grossly confused with the whole active issue. Are there any other decks that can do this?Lord, sorry to thread jack!! October 23, 200717 yr Only Alpine headunits that have the Bass Engine Pro feature can be used for a 2 way + sub active system. There are others, I just can't remember them all.
October 23, 200717 yr eclipse has some i am sure...i know those alpine 9887 have the Imprint feature...which is a technology that will basically equlize your outputs to make a flat in vehicle response....alpine dealers should have the imprint unit to set this up....basically they will set up a mic in the drivers listening position, and this measures the response of the vehicle, then the computer inversely(not sure how else to say it) eqalizes the signal vs. the vehicles response making a near flat response... and it also does time corection....then you cna fine tune it from there alsomy shop did it and from what i am told...actually sounds very good...i was considering picking one of these up, up until i realized i am about 1220 in debt!but you could definetely run a full active front stage and make it sound really good, with or without using imprint...just a lot of tweaking

I never read the banner before.. LMAO anyway.so that 9887 HU acts as an active crossover at the HU and I don't need anything else?Amazing. That's pretty much what I was looking for I might be sold. I was looking at eclipse too but hrmm... this may close the deal so to speak. I was going to go active but it was all getting so complicated..... My poor brain wasn't working anymore.just to be sure...SO right out of the box I pop in the alpine and the HU is capable of acting as an active Xover, without me buying some other multiple hundred dollar thingymabober? I'm wet my pants excited at the prospect. I supose it would limit me to 2 ways, but oh well it would clear up hella more funds for some kick ass mids.

I just didn't want to have to up front throw down another 500 bucks to use the active xover feature. Thanks for the personal experience though, it's helpfull to have that. I don't know of any shop in MN that would help me out with that imprint feature, and I refuse to pay what the local shops ask for in alpine prices. I live in MN and there are no good deals going on here anywhere. I can find the 9887 for over 300 bucks less online and no tax or shipping, no one would even negotiate on that specific unit.If there was a local trust worthy small shop I would check it out I try to suport local tallent, but all we have are big box stores with jack asses working there. The only nice guy I met had his hands tied wish a 25 dollar rebate intill christmass season. Thanks for all the help guys, if anyone knows of another HU that out of the box is set up to run active Xovers let me know. I liked the look of the alpine and it seams to get good reviews but the menue system really sucked when I tried it.. but I supose I woudl get used to it.
October 23, 200717 yr the 9887 still has the dip switch on the chassis that needs to be switched to 3way mode . Once you decide to go active , start on page 15 of the manual and read that whole section . Then your going to need to pull the head unit and flip the switch from f/r sub to 3 way. IT's all explained in that section in the manual . IT is very very similar to the older bass engine pro setup , just a couple little differences. Edit - page 42 in the manual covers the crossover switch on the chassis of the head unit I was referring too

I think one of my old HU's had that.. thanks for all the help sir. Yoda alwas handles biznessNow I will have to start looking at drivers. =)I think I feel a purchace coming on this thursday for pay day!
