well the brahma started to sound funny so i pulled it...i figured the triple joint that i fixed came undone...but i guess i did a better job than i thought because the triple joint is fine...the spider came unglued from the frame! i plan on fixing it until i can afford a re-cone to a different size, but does anyone have any good tricks to align the coil so i can glue the spider back on? i figured i'll probably have to remove the dustcap and use shims to align the coil but i figured i'd ask....

anyone know where to get replacement dustcaps?

any dustcap that is similar size will work, dd, re, fi, si, SSA, to name a few

you could try gluing the spider back as it sits, the surround may have it centered enough for it not to rub.

nope no way it's going to happen...the coil just moves way too much in the gap right now to try and glue it...i think my only option is to get a dustcap

my idea would be to look for the previous marking of where the spider was sitting at. you know like a ring of dirt or wear or something around the basket where the spider sat and well if there actualy is a ring. you could try to 2-part epoxy(the clear kind, extra strenght 30 min) and only glue 1/4 of the spider back into the exact place where it used to sit. clamp it, allow recommended cure time then continue with the rest of the spider. that way it is secured down from a point and won't shift around when you glue the rest of the spider.

not that i have ever done that before but it would seem like it might work.

you would think it would work....but i want to play it safe, plus i already have the dustcap removed so i can just shim it...i just have to stop being lazy and find a dustcap so i can get it working again!

lol i'd have on goofy looking speaker....i wish i could find a duscap similar to the RE cones, like the SE cones...a big dish, or even better the old eDuh A series flat carbon fiber cones...i'm not too worried about adding mass to the driver anyways, it'll just lower Fs and change a few t/s parameters....

you may be able to find an inverted carbon fiber like the old ascendant ones, but the nomex style flatcones like jim has won't work. that's the actual cone, not a dustcap.

If you e-mail scott he may be able to hook you up when he gets back, the Ascendant's have a full inverted dustcap or he could certainly get you a blank or fi boob style dustcap.

sweet...maybe i'll just get a new cone...lol

but i want to takt the easy route, so i'll probably get a blank dustcap and draw on it with crayons...lol only joking...i'll use paint markers
