should i use special speaker wire from my amp to the woofer? what gauge should i use?

Anything from 12 guage to 8 guage will work just fine...

why has noone mentioned 4 guage? depending on the amp... wouldnt 4 gauge be ideal?

I don't believe there is an amp out there with 4 guage speaker terminals...if you can do it...all the wasted time and effort to you...won't give you any benefits over something like 12 guage wire...

12 is typical for sub...

16 guage.....?????!!!!.....cheap ass... :D

yeah man get canare starquad 10 awg!!!!!

jk, i actrualy heard that as long as your wires are twisted then generally they aint gunna get much better than that for car aplications (very different in home)

and its even more difficult to hear noise comming though your subs from stuff like that.

depending on how much power you are running determines the appropriate gauge wire. and since you didnt say im assuming you have something around 1000 watts? which in that case i would suggjest 12 or 10 awg.

you could use 16 guage i supposes, but if you look at the amperage that 16 gauge is rated for youll see why most wouldnt use it with this much power.

just think amps times volts equals watts, so if you find a site that will list the amperage that different size wire is rated for, just multiply it by the volts you have and that will tell you your wattage. match the rated wattage of the cable to your amp.

but heck make it easy on your self just get 12 or 10 gauge and youll be fine lol.

i got a viper 1200.1d but i am going to turn my gains down. is there a special car audio speaker wire, or is it just the same as home speaker wire?

pretty much the same thing except for those retarded monster cables that use some kinda tube and cloth in the middle of the wires. It really matters more in home since you don't have the road noise and stuff to affect it. Just stick with 12 gauge.

all the fancy stuff really doesnt make much of a difference for cars. think about it, for most people youll be running wire undercarpets and behindd walls and stuff.

it makes a difference for home casue your running all over the TVs and elecronics and stuff. that all interferes somewhat

but speaker wire is speaker wire. car and home all use the same stuff generally unless you get fancy.
