I have a excursion w/2 -18 Q's and want to know if i can tune them to 30hz instead of 28hz? and should i have the port and subs firing to the rear or facing up? all my boxes always had the port and sub on the same side.I would face them to the rear. I would face my box up and the bass cuts in half. Will this do same if i face the subs up and the port to the rear? I want to get the most that i can get out of subs and box. Any input....

is this a trunk car or a hatch/suv car?

most people find that subs up port to the rear is the better way to go for more output. you could just build a wall :P

If it's an Excursion, it's a large SUV...

I've got something with an equivalent cabin size to an Excursion, I've noticed the same thing you did - sub firing back just sounded better. But I'm not chasing numbers on a meter, and the few times I've TL'ed it, the configuration that sounded best to me did the worst for pure SPL.

Generally speaking you want to keep the woofers and ports firing on the same plane for musical purposes...

In suv's in my opinion it sounds better...

What sounds better? To fire them towards the rear? Or the port and sub on the same plane?

I found in my suburban (before the wall) that subs back, port back was best for music and on the meter. It is also nice when I needed to haul something long that had to be laying over the top of the box ;)
