Posted December 5, 200717 yr check it out i did this in about 1.5 hours yesterday afternoon at work what yall think?i did a kicker zx400.1 powering 2 oldschool kicker comp 4 ohms. they are in a prefab ported box (probably tuned around 38 hz ) but thats what the customer bought. i did the car saturday but the trunk was so sealed i needed to "port" it. no tuning just basically letting bass in the cabin. here ya guys go....heres the bass knob install in the gloveboxhttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0830.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0831.jpgheres the vehicle itself sittin on 19" bmw rimshttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0832.jpgback consolehttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0833.jpgAEROPORT FTMFW!!!http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0834.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0835.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0836.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0837.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0839.jpgkicker zx 400.1http://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0840.jpghttp://i221.photobucket.com/albums/dd176/d...07/100_0841.jpglet me know what yall think! thanks
December 5, 200717 yr Author m5, customer was very pleased and is actually bringing his m5 to me next week. ill have to show you it when i get threw so maybe you can get some ideas!!! we are all here to learn right?
December 5, 200717 yr wow, you hacked up a 02 325 BMw just to put a port in the arm rest.. Where do you work circuit city??
December 5, 200717 yr Author its what the customer wanted?? thats why i am making the face with the port lol. i just do what im paid to do. if yall wanna hate the hate but gimme tips for future reference ex. m5 with the stinky face, well tell me what to improve on lol! we are all here to learn thanks!
December 5, 200717 yr I am just glad it wasn't your idea, lol.It all depends on the goal, those cars in particular don't take well to subs in the trunk. It would help to have them rear fire...
December 5, 200717 yr Author trust me i told the customer all of this but he insisted.... lol but imseeing this the same way yall are lol
December 5, 200717 yr Interesting , if it were me I would have probably cut the entire piece of metal out of there and put a gasket around the cut edge. But I know how you feel, customer wants, customer gets. I used to have to do some of the dumbest crap known to man. Tis why I'm kind of selective about who I do work for now a days. I don't have to be burger king anymore, you get it my way or you don't get it at all

December 6, 200717 yr If you would have covered the opening with some vinyl, it would have looked 10000000% better.
December 6, 200717 yr If you would have covered the opening with some vinyl, it would have looked 10000000% better.lol i was going to type that yesterday but i didn't.one thing though i thought that BMW's had a Ski hole to slide your skiis in. em, couldn't you just open the entire skii hole and not have to port it into the cabin like that?is the box mounted to the floor or is it being held in place by the port?
December 6, 200717 yr Author i would not trust the box being mounted to that port do to the surface the port is mounted to. if you put light behind that plate on those bmw's you can see the spaces inbetween the welds to hold it in. if you punch it hard enough you can knock it out. i knocked the one outta my dads 740il after i had a 8 mounted there because the 8 rattled it apart. 8's sound good right there. also im not sure about the skii rack thing. as far as replacing back deck with mini subs i did not do that on this one. i did it on a 740il (4 5.25's boston acoustics) turned out o.k. i guess.
December 6, 200717 yr Depending on the year that plate regularly is removable. It surely was on my last two. I would have just taken it out.
December 7, 200717 yr Well, at least I noticed the detail on the amp install. Great job on the wiring, and snap-on FTW

But I know how you feel, customer wants, customer gets. I used to have to do some of the dumbest crap known to man. Tis why I'm kind of selective about who I do work for now a days. I don't have to be burger king anymore, you get it my way or you don't get it at all x2!!or like ///m5 touched on, just removed the panel. sometimes if you give the customer a little more then what they want (in this case, a cleaner opening), you'd get even better response.i've been in that situation where the customer has wanted something completely stupid,in a really good car (if it's a pos, who cares?) and refused to do it. sat down with the customer and explained the right way to do it, and usually got my way. the previous owner of the shop i worked at was so picky, he'd flat out call a person stupid to their face and show them the door. it was definitely chuck's way or not done. of course, chuck's way was usually the correct way. also, the amp install is clean. i have one of those waiting to go into the hooptie.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
December 8, 200717 yr In my E46 I just knocked out the entire ski pass. It didn't have cold/weather package, but the piece is meant to be knocked out. Removing the rear speakers also yields the same results as removing the ski pass. The red circles are what hold the piece in place. One swift kick would knock the entire piece out. But, I understand the op was just doing his job and what was asked of him. Edited December 8, 200717 yr by mikecdm
December 8, 200717 yr Author amp is mounted to a piece of 1/2" mdf that is behind the carpet. the mdf is secured to the metal braces
December 28, 200717 yr here is a 05 745li its a friends i know, he lives in Ohio. he removed the whole piece and made a skypass for the 4th order portand then the insulation you have to remove; this is the main reason why you see a lot of "complaints" about not able to hear bass in from trunk
