Posted December 22, 200717 yr I want to install a processor, Have seen the 701 in action(didnt get much play time tho). I have not been able to screw around with a 360. Does anybody have any experience with these two units? I was leaning towards the alpine, mainly for the digital input. Is the digital that important, or not? Thanks for any help
December 23, 200717 yr Do you have a source capable of providing an optical signal to the processor? If not, that feature doesn't mean a lot. You will need the controller or one of the Alpine units capable of the controlling the 701. You will need a Palm PDA for the 360. If you have a Palm and don't have one of the Alpine HU/controllers, that would make the decision pretty easy. Same if the opposite were true.
December 23, 200717 yr I'd lean on the Alpine, but Helotaxi is rather right. Depending on what you already have and your budget the decision will get easier.
December 24, 200717 yr 360.2= larger EQ, OEM integrated, smaller, cheaper. No, it does not need a PDA. You can use it on windows.H701= Less eq, non oem integrated, Optical, 5.1 surround or 4 way active.Needs C701 to work with it unless you have an h701 ready h/u.Much more costly item and IMO, harder to use.Personally id rather have the 360.2 over the 701.The 701 has its place, but its a PITA to use. The 4 way is a nice treat, but not everyone needs or uses 4 way.701 combo will set you back well over $500360.2, can snag one for under $400 on ebay
December 24, 200717 yr Author I would have to buy the controller/palm with either unit. I do have optical out though, the reason I was leaning towards the alpine is to use the dac on it, rather than the one on my jvc. I'm sure the Alpine dac is of a much higher quality.
December 24, 200717 yr I throughly enjoy my H701, and wouldn't ever sell it. I found it very easy to use, but that may be because I have a D310 to control it. I have yet to use the C701 controller.
