Posted December 22, 200717 yr Well it's been a long time since I've owned any car audio, Got older got married had kids you can paint the rest of the picture ...... LOLAnyway here goes, I been lurking here for a couple months along with a bunch of other ca forums been reading tons of good things about FI & basically I'm pretty much dead set on running the 12" Q's I got close to 6 cubes to work with. Now to the questions:Is the sundown saz1500D enough to run 2 12's ported (unless you guys think I should go sealed) daily or would I be better off running 2 sae1000D.The vehicle is a 2000 Cadillac DTS all factory wiring so that brings be to the second question if I had to run the 2 sae1000D's would I need an electrical upgrade (HO alternator extra batteries ETC.) cause I'd rather not go that route if at all possible but if need be I would.Last but not least what ohm Q's would I need to get a 1 ohm load out of these amps if I only ran the 1 saz1500D & what ohm would I need if I had to run the 2 sae100D's.Sorry if this is asking to much in my first post but you guys are the pros I'm pretty much a renewb. Thanks for any info I recieve.BD Edited December 22, 200717 yr by bigdog829
December 22, 200717 yr I would run a 1500D with a pair of dual 1 ohm drivers. Wire the coils on each sub in series, and then parallel the pair of subs.6 ft^3 should be enough gross volume to do a nice ported setup. maybe 5 ft^3 net volume with a pair of 4" aero ports. . .Brian Edited December 22, 200717 yr by BKOLFO4
December 22, 200717 yr A pair of D1s for the 1500, or a D2 Q for each 1000.Like Brian mentioned, 6cuft is more than enough for a solid ported setup. Are you going for a loud daily driver, SQ oriented, mix of things???4.4 cuft tuned to 30Hz for the pair is a solid low tuned setup. Bumping things up to 33Hz increases the output in that area a little and is a great all around setup. Slot or aero ports would work great. We recommend 12-16 sqin of port per cuft of enclosure for standard slot ports. Aeros dont require as much port... (1)4" per sub is on the small side and Id look to (3) of them for a common chamber enclosure for the pair of subs. (3) 4" ports at 18" long tune you to 33Hz in 4.4 after displacementThanks,Scott
December 22, 200717 yr Author Thanks for the replies guys,Looks like 2 12" Q's & the 1500D it is.Scott look for my order shortly after the holidays 2 kids + lots of presents = Dads gotta wait for his.BD Edited December 22, 200717 yr by bigdog829
December 28, 200717 yr Author Well here's what I came up with :2 12" Q's6 Cubes gross internal 4.6 Cubes after all displacements (port & subs)77 square inches of port EDIT (just realized thats prob to much port area) if so back to the drawing boardtuned to 33 hzAlso this is my first attempt at sketchup after viewing a tutorial on ca.comlet me know what you guys think.build or dont build ? January 30, 200817 yr I've been toying with the same notion...So the 1500D would be enough for 2 12's? And what about his question about the electrical system, I too have all stock and am curious how detrimental its going to be on MY electrical system. I do have a nearly brand new batttery because the last one had a bad cell, and threw a bolt meter on it just before to make sure it wasnt' the alternator... solid 13.8. So, will a 1500D + a JL 450/4 be too much for my car, or do I need to make modifications? Or just do it and see what happens and go from there or can I damage something?
