Posted January 15, 200817 yr Currently I have the CDT classic 6.5" mids with 480 x-over and tw25 main tweeter silk and I think the T1 silk upstage tweeter. I was thinking of upgrading the mid with the M6 and upgrading the x-over with the ES-200 but I'm not sure because of how bad the midbass is on what I'm using now. My highs are nice and loud but I have no midbass. So while thinking about this I've also considered scrapping CDT all together and going with a Dynaudio 242 GT set-up or even Morel HYbrid Ovations. While lookin at the prices of these I found the RE XXX and an incredible savings here: http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?fuseac...Product_ID=4928So considering the price break I wanted to know if anyone here as heard them and what you thought. I don't need incredible SQ but I like it loud and clean like I have now but with more mid Edited January 17, 200817 yr by AP Zoutes
January 15, 200817 yr I'd rather have the Morels or Dyns, the only way I'd ever run the XXX's are as dedicated midbasses only in a 3-way.
January 16, 200817 yr My friend Carlo runs the XXX components and they are pretty good sounding in his Camry. They don't ever fall off, and are pretty strong mid bass drivers. I was actually surprised at how well they performed, being that I haven't read many great things about them.Haven't heard Morels or Dynaudio's yet in person, don't know much about them.I personally wouldn't run the XXX's, I run the Soundstream Tarantula Components and they are a bit cheaper, and love them. January 16, 200817 yr the only bad thing i read about them has to do with the tweeter not the midbass driver( besides it's size).
January 16, 200817 yr not sure what u should do... XXX have plenty of midbass but thats all they really excelled in. and i myself havent really be satisfied with the midbass from any cdt speakers (except the m6+ or 06+ but they dont do well midrange wise) except the es 07s are boarderline. I like plenty of midbass so im going to run a seperate midbass driver. Its really one of the only ways unless your willing to compromise the midrange
January 16, 200817 yr Author thankyou for all the replies.By the sounds of things I think it would be best to save my pennies until I can get a set the Dynaudio three-ways Edited January 16, 200817 yr by AP Zoutes
January 16, 200817 yr I'm with Jim on the XXX, not my cup of tea. I will also add that I think it isn't really so logical to do a passive three way unless you can get all three drivers to have equal PLD's. I'd stick with a 2 way or if going 3 step up and run active.
January 17, 200817 yr Author I've never done a three-way setup. Can I do it semi-active? For example if I used a four channel amp can I run the mid and tweeteer with a passive of the front channels and the midbass of the rear channel?
January 17, 200817 yr I might look like an idiot by asking this but what do you mean by PLD?Path Length Differences
January 17, 200817 yr Author would these run an active three-way?http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...?model=CDA-9887 http://www.alpine-usa.com/US-en/products/p...100EQ&tab=Dif so what else would I need to addIf not could head me in the right direction Edited January 17, 200817 yr by AP Zoutes
