Posted March 6, 200817 yr To be able to dominate the lows, what should I tune my box to. I know Fi recommends 33hz. But I'm not familiar with what frequency creates what sound. If i do tune the box to lets say 30hz. Will I only get good output from the lows or would the mid-lows be hit pretty good too. I dont give a s... about the highs.
March 6, 200817 yr tuning to 30hz will be fine, or you could go with a sealed box for equal frequency distribution.
March 6, 200817 yr Author I hate sealed boxes. I had a sealed box for my last installation and it was nothing but junk. I hate the punchy punch that the woofers make and when it hit the lows it made nothing but a flutter sound. The best decision I ever made was to sell it. Ported boxes make a nice smooth transition and are a HELL of a lot deeper. So yea. Is 30 too low or is that probably just right?
March 6, 200817 yr Heh, must have had woofers that were not designed for a sealed box...Tuning lower will just make the lower frequencies more pronounced, and your roll off even lower...Thanks!-Nick

They got pretty loud but they were just not what I was looking for. I know lower will make the lows more pronounced. But how low do I go before the mid-lows are affected too much.
March 6, 200817 yr They are subs...they aren't intended to play over 80hz anyways...i'm starting to think what you may be referring as the 'mid-lows' may be the lack of a solid midbass driver...

You got typical bass, which is just bass. Then you got the lows, the kind of lows that just flex windows and set off car alarms. the deep low. I wish i could describe it in hz but i dont know frequencies. Should I just tune it to 33 like Fi recommends or should I be a rebel and make it 30
