Posted March 9, 200817 yr The other day I whiped together a box for my Q10, 14x14x12, 3/4in mdf, comes out to around .9 cubes. I screwed up on one of the cuts so i just siliconed the chit out of it. So i have it in my truck now, pushed by 900 kenwood watts rms and there is a clicking noise coming from the sub. Not so noticeable on the lower notes or in rock songs, but it really makes me mad. I pushed on the sub, no scratchy sound, i put the coils on a DMM, both at .8 ohms. WTF! I also tried it free air a little and the noise is louder let. I read on another forum to check my spider for rub marks from tensel slap, and i couldn't find anything. Any ideas? Am i doing something wrong?
March 9, 200817 yr what coil configuration did you purchase the sub with? Edited March 9, 200817 yr by fbi90909
March 9, 200817 yr Author what coil configuration did you purchase the sub with?Dual 1 coil wired to 2ohms for the kenwood.
March 9, 200817 yr i think your coils are fine. how did you set your gains?do you have any bass boost on?what EQ settings do you have set on your HU?
March 9, 200817 yr Author My HU was set flat. I set the gain on my amp using a dmm, filter at 100hz and yes there was bass boost on. Is that a bad thing? I don't think it will put out much with it turned down. From what i could hear the sound wasn't distorted.
March 10, 200817 yr how strong is the silicon holding up?With "900w of kenwood" with bass boost, it's possible to not only have clipped but there may be a leak in your box from that silicon resulting in bottoming out the sub.Hey bigjon, you better go over to buying a meter thread when u get a chance! March 10, 200817 yr Author Yeah the box is getting replaced, built a new one this afternoon, so i'm hopeing that will help. About the bottoming out thing, its not bottoming out, its not nearly loud enough to be that, also it does it at lower playing levels too. When i had it set up fireing into my seat (its in a truck) it sounded good because i couldn't hear the click, but when fliped the seat forward, i could hear it.
March 10, 200817 yr Author you had the sub hitting the back of the seat?!?!!!!No. It was faceing the seat. And I don't think the sub was out of phase but i could check that over. I was getting a pretty good amount of sound, not as loud as i had hoped though.
March 10, 200817 yr Your amp is questionable to say the least so don't expect too much. If you set your gains and then put on the bass boost you are clipping the piss out of it.
March 10, 200817 yr Author Haha! Yeah the kenwood was only $170, i figured it was better than something similar in that price range (hifonics)But i just went out to the truck with a dmm and set gains without the bass boost on and magically....No more click sound! i had the sub hooked up free and and it wasn't moving as much as before so i might be looking into a new amp soon. What would you recomend for something that is cheaper that a Sundown 1000D?Thanks for your help by the way. I'm a much happier person now that i know something isn't wrong.
March 10, 200817 yr Could try something from RF if you don't have the fundage for the Sundown. You might try emailing the SSA store though to see about a better price.
March 10, 200817 yr Author Could try something from RF if you don't have the fundage for the Sundown. You might try emailing the SSA store though to see about a better price.I would love a sundown a RF would amazing too. The only problem now is I have a D1 coils. Is the Sundown stable at .5ohms?
March 10, 200817 yr Not warrantied, but yes. Read the sticky in the Sundown section. You can wire in series to use one of the 25th Anniversary RF amps.
March 10, 200817 yr Think there was a SAE 1000d refurb in one of the sticky threads on the sundown forum for like $200ish...looks like a good deal.
