I have a BTL 15 dual mag hooked up 1 ohm mono to Sundown 3000. When I really want to get on it the sub sounds like it is bottoming out. When I had it hooked up 2 ohms it did not do this. Also I have yet to blow my 100 amp fuse. Have 300 amp fuse standing buy but with the popping I have to keep the sound down enough so I don't know if I'll ever blow this 100A fuse. Doesn't sound like tinsel slap to me. Box is tuned to 35hz and is almost 4cf.

Thanks in advance Ronrico Joe

What does the signal look like an oscilloscope?

take the sub out and see if its slappin

3kW is a lot of power to not have testing equipment...

As in take it out and turn it up? To see whats making the noise. I've never played a sub "free air" like that. Joey

go on parts express and buy you a Velleman o-scope. Whenever you have time, buy one. Once you have it, there's no goin back, :)

are you possibly playing below port frequency?

now if its not tinsel slap chances are you are bottoming out the spiders on the first step of the 12 spoke basket... the 15" is the only one to have this problem under high excursion... I reconed my sub with a 1/4" spacer between basket and spiders and also offset the coil by 1/4" to realign it... no more slapping. but I am using my sub for SPL and had 2 - 4 Powerbass XA3000's on it playing in a box that was total 6.5 with 133sq in of port tuned for 49hz

Dude that sounds like it. Can anything be done with out having to recone it, besides turning the volume down. I'm glad to hear it is the only one with the problem. When I was running only 1500 watts, it wasn't an issue. Still have not popped a 100 amp fuse with my Sundown 3000. Mainly because with the bottoming out of the BTL I cannot turn it up because I want the music to remain clear. I need my 18s like yesterday. I can tell this sub has more to give along with the amp because of how much headroom I have. Kinda frustrating since I really want to crank this baby up. Funny thing is, everyone else is still blown away. Me dreaming Havocs. Thanks for the info.

Your playing way below tuning frequency, you need to turn your subsonic filter 3-4Hz below your port tuning frequency.

Thanks!

Nick - Nice to hear from ya - Well that fixed it no more popping from the BTL. Now being able to "crank it up" I can definately get it a lot LOUDER!!!!!

However instead of blowing the 100 amp fuse the amp goes into protect (Sundown 3000) Going to check the rca's and ground per Jacob! I think perhaps it's the RCAs since I have a pretty solid ground but I'll definately check both.

Now I can hear a little to much bang from the BTL instead of a loud and clear bass tone. Is this just the nature of a BTL since even though it's daily it's still a SPL "type" of subwoofer. Do you guys know that extra unwanted bang I'm talking about. It's definately the woofer and not the box or anything loose. I've heard thia kind of "motor sound" before on SPL specific woofers usually as the intentionally played bass-tone is dying out. Sometimes you can hear the motor still banging while the bass is fading.

Does anyone understand what I'm talking about it's awefully hard to explain?

Thanks in advance Joe
