Posted March 24, 200817 yr I've got two 10" kicker L5s in my extended cab ranger right now, running off an SAE-1000D amp and it's not loud enough for me. I prefer something that sounds good, and I don't compete so I need a sub for a daily driver.Trying to stay around $250 per sub, I was looking at the Elemental Designs 16Ov2, SSA Icon, Mach5 IXL or possibly the AA Arsenal. Both the eD and the IXL stand out to me, I've heard some favorable things about them. I aim to buy one now and run it ported off around 1000W RMS, and add a second later when I get another SAE-1000D strapped (1800W).What would you recommend I get and why? I'm ready to buy now, I am selling my current 10s locally to pay for this first sub, I just want to make sure the replacement is louder than two 10s.
March 24, 200817 yr Author I would probably get two Mag 12's and keep the same amp you have currently At $500 a pop, Mags are way outside of my price range
March 24, 200817 yr The 16ov.2s are great subs. Ive ran 2 before. They arent SPL subs but do get loud and stay clear. Also they dont require a large enclosure. Id recommend them or the new slim Mags.
March 24, 200817 yr The one real important bit of information you left out is how much space you have....oh and don't buy from Ben @ eD.
March 24, 200817 yr from what ive read you cant go wrong with the icons..check out there new site http://www.soundsolutionsaudio.com/products/icon/
March 24, 200817 yr Admin The Icon/Arsenal/IXL idea is a good one. All three will play clean and smooth across the freq range. But that is effected by the quality of the box. I am heavily biased towards the Icon because it is our driver.
March 24, 200817 yr Author The one real important bit of information you left out is how much space you have....oh and don't buy from Ben @ eD. I've heard a few things about the guy who runs eD as well, I honestly just want a sub that performs As far as space, I've got about 8cu ft to work with. I could go larger if need be, but this is staying under the window line..I know I mentioned before I don't plan to compete, but I do have one goal as far as SPL. I want to try to be as loud or louder than two 12" L5's in the back of an explorer. Fairly large ported box, about 1500W. Buddy of mine, heh
March 24, 200817 yr Author get a single 18 then it will fit in 8 cubesI could do this, but it seems there are more speakers (and thus more competition) in the 15" space. It seems there would be better options with 15s.What would be the benefit of running an 18? I know it's less surface area than two 15s, and likely power handling although I don't have a ton of power available right now as it is.I like the idea that it's potentially cheaper, buying one 18 vs two 15s. Besides the eD 19Ov2, what would be a good musical, but loud 18?
March 24, 200817 yr The one real important bit of information you left out is how much space you have....oh and don't buy from Ben @ eD. Ben doesnt work at ED anymore(in Newton). That should make you happy. He may pop in from time to time but has left to start a custom home HT company of sorts.

March 25, 200817 yr He has to wave his little stubby around and then piss off a new set of customers.
March 25, 200817 yr Author He has to wave his little stubby around and then piss off a new set of customers. I've heard a lot of good things about the eD subwoofers however. Was it just a bad owner but they actually make good products?
March 25, 200817 yr 1000 rms...hmmm.I vote Sound splinter Rl-p 15" a lil out a ur price range, but worth it.or SSA ICON 15"Fi Q 15", take your pick, all great subs...

Was it just a bad owner but they actually make good products? For a long time they didn't "make" anything...they used Resonance, TC Sounds, Image Dynamics, and Destijl for their build work...so not terrible engineering, nothing spectacular (my five-year old e12a.22 is still working like new with no problems). Of course, if you go by what they tell you they've always made everything in Iowa I haven't kept up with them in the past couple years so who knows, they could be molding cow turds into soft parts by now...However, with the attitude I've got from them, I wouldn't buy again from them...regardless of what the products might do. Not just Ben, either...some of his newer cronies were a real joy to deal with the last time I bothered to log into that forum.
March 27, 200817 yr Author I'm still not sure how it all happened again, but I'm sitting in front of two HUGE 15s, much larger subs than the 15's I anticipated at the start of this thread.I have a pair of AA Havocs, and man are they sexy looking! Solid smooth black cone reminds me of a W7 almost. Then of course the back side looks like its ready to eat a JL for lunch. Edited March 27, 200817 yr by creyc
