but please understand Iv never lisen to a JL setup that was worth what was paid for it...

as compaired to the Focal...

Focal does not necessarily mean SQ... personally, I do not care for any of the Focal products, overpriced, and do not treat my ears well. But, they do market them very well. If I had the scratch, I'd really enjoy having both a W7 & W6, very very nice sounding subwoofers.

I still don't understand the whole concept of SQ not being loud... its all in how the system AS A WHOLE performs & articulates the sound. This includes the installation of the products, methods to calm resonance in the vehicle and most importantly, the user's ability to dial the system in to get the very most out of it (which can be said for both SQ & SPL goals).

I didn't spend the uber dollars when I put together my system, but it gets loud enough to impress any person that has had a listen thus far (right Sean?)... and I can hit the old SPL measurement test that was part of SQ competitions in years previous with my single 15 and ~350W if I felt the need to. Hell, I spend ~$15 each on my midranges, ~$20 each on my tweeters & ~$80 each on my midbass! Just because someone is using big money components doesn't mean they do know what they are doing... ask Ramos.

As for the original topic that started this... nothing out there will "keep" up with 4 Q's in the very literal sense of the word. If the OP wants to just hear the words, efficient Pro Audio drivers are the key... or turn the bass down while cruising, someday you will need your ears for something, like life. Not like you can't turn them up while competing or at a show, right?

About the only thing that annoys me more than someone making a thread like this is someone making a thread like this that won't back up what's being asserted.

I figure we are all passionate about this stuff. Hell, we woudn't be dumping our lifes savings and every bit of spare time into it if we weren't. Much less posting on this forum.

In my opinion, the solution is in knowing what the author of a "help" post really needs or is looking for. I try my hardest to get into their heads before I post advice. I've found that perhaps 90 percent of the folks posting have differing opinions of SQ than I do. So it is imperative to me to try and figure out what it is they are looking for as an end state. Once you know that, you can take it from there.

But that said, my advice would differ from anybody else who takes the time to analyze the persons wants. We all have different experience... and a different frame of reference. The key is not to h8te on each other as we express our opinions.

My opinion, simply put, is only my opinion. It can only be taken for what it is worth and it's value is measured by the recipient of the advice.

In my simple world, it's like a car sale:

It certainly can... I aim to prove it in the SQ lanes this year. I only wish I'd metered it last year before I tore the whole system apart.

I have to say there are three classifications that should be used, that would alleviate a lot of the crap.

SPL system - competition style or other wise serves one purpose. GET FREAKING LOUD

SQ system - really is no sq system other than a competition setup. Granted you can have a nice setup that stages perfectly with beautiful tonality and not compete. But guess what, it's still in the SQ competition style in the fact that creating a stage is basically what sq comps are all about.

Street banger - can be a mis mash of the two and anywhere in between. " I want fo 15's, and some louds that can keep up" You have a street banger

But most of the systems in that era would run seperate subs for SPL , then either turn most of them off, or use completely different subs for the SQ portion

I enjoy a sort of music where I can *feel* it. But not the heart stopping bass that the SPL guys would take that comment to mean.

I want something that will wash over me and feel good to my ears while bringing up new parts of the song to me and not having other annoying ticks and lapses in frequencies around me.

That is "MY" SQ.

That being said.. this is predominantly and SQ forum. It's been slowly moving towards SPL with the revelation of the ICON and the fact that it gets damn loud while sounding good.

But since we were first and foremost SQ.. of course you're going to get all the SQ guys jumping on your threads.

Anyway, I agree with sir ramos, just live and let live, and if you can add something or offer help from experience great. I don't have a clue what I am labeled as, although I am sure people perceive SQsnoooob because of the Icon/SSA forums, but I do enjoy trying to build a loud system for high SPL #'s when I have time/money/equipment/vehicle to do so. I, as are 95% of most of all the audio forum members are, will never have the technical knowledge of Sean or the install skill of sir ramos, but we strive to learn to get there. I know I will never get the 300 to world class SQ winner, but I want be able to compete if I wanted to do so. As for the lil' trusty scooter, I just want to have great performance, be it clean/crisp sound that makes me happy, or clean mid's/high's and a substage to impress the dealers.

So, well I don't think I helped this topic at all, but SSA as a collective is very good at trying to help everyone out.

will most likely never archive the total nirvana of SQ but will be close enuff to fool the regular lisener...

LB you forget one very major point, an SPL setup is made for maximum bass at one note and an SQ setup is made for having no maximums anywhere in the spectra. Saying you can get the complete opposite to mimic the other isn't possible. The only way to do this is to unplug your SPL sub when you want it to sound good. You could surely invest in the front stage to get there, but the box, the driver, and the whole sub application is not capable of the transition.
