I have a 99 mustang want to do one 15 in the trunk in a 5.5 cf box. i have a audiobahn a1500hct rated at 2000 watts @ 1ohm. my question is can a fully loaded bl handle this or should i get stock btl? i won't be competing in spl comps jus want something to beat on every now and again. btw i will be replacing alt with a 220 amp alt and yellow top under the hood. any advice would be good.

I highly doubt that amp is actually capable of that power...

i agree jim, that AB is way over rated.... anyway... BL is a great sub, i own 2 and thay are great... infact for a small car like a mustang i would say use a 12...

I used to own an a2300hct and it only had 160A of fuse.

I never metered it's output but wired @ 0.5 ohm nominal in stereo was the only way it put out decent power.

It couldn't do it for long though on music, it went into protect in bout 60 second due to heating problems.

damn, i knew you were going to say something like that about the amp. i went on some other forums and they too also said the same thing about audiobahn. i can easily sell the amp to my barber he's been eyeing it. i guess i should get a sundown or rockford huh? what about hifonics is that a good choice?

i would never even try to run a AB at half ohm.

And I think tallest the rear deck will let have in there is 15.5in, but how in the world are you getting the box in there?

the box would have to be built inside the trunk

if your just going for music.. and a street beater... then get the BL with some options... and send aroun 1100-1300 watts to it in a tuned box and you will be slammin,.....

me personaly i dont like hifonics... i bought a goliath.. first time i ran it at 1 ohm.. it poped.... not protected... POPED... i sent it to hifonics for repair in AUG 07.... thay just called me today APL 08.. its fixed.. and thay charged me 150 bucks...

IMO hifonics used to be great.. but now it all made in japan, and its all about price margin to them... .so i say FUXEM

but i know people that like them... thay keep spares cause the reliabilty is about a 5 on a scale... of 1-10

so Bigjon u don't think the zx1500 and btl would sound right? the kicker is rated @ 1500 but more than likely would put out more than that. i know that's underpowering a btl a tad but that is why i wanted one w/o options except for p chamfer

No, go with the BL and cooling options..you don't have enough power for the BTL, odds are you'll try to make up for it and crank the volume knob and toast the coil from clipping...

0.35 DCR right?? All coils read a lower DCR than the actual impedance with non-DC applied.

max output.. wait wait.. your asking the wrong questions....

the kicker would be a good match for the bl......imo

the kicker you will only get 1500 watts out of it on a test bench..............

but the things is.. as nick said... if you get a BTL you will be sad... cause the 1500 wont be enough.. and you will be turning the gain up on the amp.. you will be crankin your volume knob you will be turing your bass boost on.... making all mistakes that lead to distortion and heat.... and then.. a bad sub....

get the bl... if you want the kicker get the kicker.. set your gains right.. run a nice alt, with a nice 0 gauge.. .and you will be happy....

personaly.. no one belives i only have two 15's.... sum times i cant belive it.... but trust the people here...... BL is tha right choice.

thanks 4 all the advice...i made a decision im going with a fully loaded btl 12 and kicker zx2500.1....this setup should keep me content until i get a suv
