so i hooked up my sub and amp. its a dual 1 ohm 12" q to a jl 1000.1 and it sounds like poo. i get a slapping sound even with the bass almost all the way down and the volume not even half way up. i havent tuned a jl amp before and theres all sorts of knobs and switches and what not, the box is sealed and around 1.2ft ^3 after the sub displacement. any help is greatly appreciated. thanks

Seems like you may have a leak somewhere to me. I'm not familiar with those amps at all, however it should not be 'slapping' or sounding like 'poo' .

Generally speaking people who have issues like you describe either have crossovers wide open on the amps, and/or a leaky sealed box. Is it a prefab or is it one that you built/had somebody else build?
