Posted April 6, 200817 yr i was playing my fi q 12 with bp power on a zx1500.1 in a 4th order bandpass bout 3.5 cubes all together and it was sounding good and knockin nicely when all the sudden it stopped no pop smell or anything. . i took the sub out an everything looks fawless but i tested the sub with a battery and a dmm and the ohm reading is all wierd i was just wondering if i can have this fixed or what ill send it in if i have to i just want my sub back. . . . Please help. Thanks, Teddy
April 6, 200817 yr Author anyone? i really wanna fix this problem i need some serious help it to much money to just say oh well too. . . . .Thanks
April 7, 200817 yr in a bandpass, it will be hard to smell abuse by the time u got to the sub.gotta give us that weird ohm load. And make sure when u measure it with the DMM that the stereo is completely turned off including the amp.
April 7, 200817 yr Yes take your digital volt ohm meter and let us know what the coils are reading at rest...then we'll go from there.Thanks!-Nick
April 7, 200817 yr Ohms will fluctuate if there is any breeze or even a stereo playing... sympathetic vibrations set things in motion and it goes from DC resistence to AC impedence. When you pull the sub look through the vents to see if the coil looks burnt or smells it. ZX1500.1 is a strong amp and is rated at a fair amount more than the Q. We will get it sorted one way or another. Thanks,Scott
April 7, 200817 yr Author ok so i didnt define weird im sorry i hooked it up straight to the sub terminal on each side one read nothing and the other number was jumpin all around so i dunno what the deal with. . . but thats the ohm reading Thanks!
April 7, 200817 yr Sounds like a burnt coil to me, you'll need a recone to get back running again. Warranty does not cover burned coils...what's your zip code and i can give you a shipped price on one.Thanks!-Nick
April 7, 200817 yr Author well ill check again cause wouldnt a burnt coil be stiff? speaker isnt stiff or anything all wires are normal?
April 7, 200817 yr Author zipcode is 77632 but i have no idea how to recone either is it hard or anything i mean i never even done it before. .. .
April 7, 200817 yr Author oh i see lol. . . . well i think i found a new discovery the dmm i have to check is a peice of chit an i was hookin it up then turning it on then discoved that the reading is the same when it aint plugged also i discoved a peice rattling or something. . . when i turn the speaker upside down sounds like the peice settles behind the fi symbol cause i cant get it to shake out. . . must be on the inside no idea what it could be tho! Thanks Again Everyone for info.Teddy
April 8, 200817 yr Author scott,Can i just send the sub to yall and you can let me know what you find out about it. . . cause i dont think its burnt coil anymore with me having a fudgeed up dmm and the rattle inside the sub makes me think otherwise
April 8, 200817 yr Sure send it in, just make sure you put all of your information in the box when you send it. Name, address, phone number, and email.Thanks!-Nick
