okay so i was wondering what i should do...the gains were set with an o scope, everything installed correctly, box size was good, no clipping ...it literally just tore straight in half...has to be one of the colest things i have ever seen...everything looked right in the box but when i pulled it out the cone was in half..i know there is no fixing it but i was wondering if maybe i could just get a new cone/dust cap put on the old basket ....by the way it is a 12" aresenal......i still have the voice coil and spider and the motor and basket are still in mint mint condition and i feel it would be a waste to just throw it......so can i "fix" it anyway or should i just make a sweet barstool

AA will fix it for you. Got PICS? I'd love to see the damage. I had a sub freeze up on me about a year age and Chad fixed it quickly.

pics please, are you sure that the coils weren't wired opposite on each side? I have done it before and the sub is fighting itself, it will still play and all but it is literally tearing itself apart.

Unless the power applied to each coil was far from the same, it will not still play. The magnetic forces of each coil cancel, and it will not do anything to the cone. . .

In my case it was 1 of 4 subs in a common chamber that was wired backwards (but only one of the voice coils of the two was wired backwards. The sub literally ripped the surround, the dust cap came off etc... And this was on a low power substage (120 watts rms per sub).

Duct tape...and you will be good to go.

Seriously, the Arsenals can handle some power. I'd call AA and send it in for a recone. Customer service is great!

That seems very weird...

To my understanding : Both coils are on the same former and if one plays out of phase, the magnetic forces will cancel each other out. I don't think there is a chance you could do mechanical damage that way.

Your case was quite a bit diffrent. 1 of 4 subs wired out of phase, sharing one chamber is a whole diffrent story. The one you wired wrong acted like a PR. With 3 subs moving it, mechanical damage was a piece of cake :)

How much power were you running to the thing?

i have it run at 2 ohms off an eD ninE.1 so what maybe 600 im guessing...in the ballpark of that im thinking....

create a new album. upload ouc. then post the picture you have uploaded.

OR after you have the picture on your hard drive. go to photobucket.com and create an account. upload image to your album. then copy the IMG Code provided under the uploaded picture. then paste the IMG Code you copied into a new post here in this thread and your done. :)

the first pic is after we found the cone tore so we tore it more.....the second is before we tore out the cone and you can see straight through to the back wall...the third is my quarter koren or quarter-eon friend with his voicecoil megaphone

so what do you all think .....it was tore not "striaght" in half but in half none the less....how much would it be to fix it....and is it worth fixing

Well thats a problem. Glad it wasnt one of the subs I built OEM for AA before I owned it. We can recone them but have more coils on order right now... things will be a little sturdier after we get done with them :)
