Posted April 11, 200817 yr Hello. I'm an enthusiast-- obviously. But I wouldn't call myself "diehard." Though I do spend a lot of time and money on this "hobby of mine". Worth it...Anyway, I have a Ford Mustang '98 Coupe [for referance]As of now, I have crappy mid-range, and 2x 10" JBL GTO1002D [2oDVC @ 250-RMS] in a sealed box.I like it... but, I'm thinking about upgrading to the Fi Q.I was wondering if one 10" would be enough? I was thinking either 10" or 12". Is there a real audible difference between the two? I like the look of the 12", and it's only $10 dollars more. But space is a premium in the Mustang-- and a box big enough to fit in is even harder. Also, I was thinking about what to power it with. I have a Boss 1200M amp 600x1 @ 1-ohm... so, I definitely have to upgrade the amp... to reach the full capacity of the sub and have better quality. With that amp on for about 10 minutes, it burns to the touch. It's a killer. I've only put it in protection mode once [which isn't something to be proud about-- but I do live in Miami, and it was mid-day with a 'bass test' playing]Any suggestions on an amp decent enough to compliment the Q? I don't wanna spend a lot of money... but I don't wanna cheap out and pay for it. You know? Thanks.
April 11, 200817 yr I would suggest looking at Sundown if you want the best amp company customer service on the planet. Than it's up to you to choose the 1000d, or 1500d if you are really thirsting for a beastly amp for the Q.
April 11, 200817 yr What Are your goals? do you wanna hear more sq or spl? i personally would go with the 12'' q and bp option with a sundown 1500d......

I have a Q12 and I LOVE it....It gets plenty loud. Since you live in a warmer area I would definitely get the cooling with it too.
April 11, 200817 yr Author Haha. I'm getting the Q, not BTL ^-^Looking for Quality. What are the differences between the 10" and 12"? [And don't say 2" inches please]It has the same motor right, just different cone size?I'm aiming for a 12, though. One would suffice, right?EDIT: I also read that most good amps require ~12.5V of constant current.Right now I just have a stock Alt with 2-AWG wire running down the side where it reaches a post [in essence: a plastic base with a screw coming out of the top] where it cuts off into I believe 8AWG [could be 4AWG... I forgot]I'm gunna do the Big3 soon with 0AWG Knuflex.Since it's a pretty old car ['98] and a pretty mediocre company [Ford] the alt is MAYBE 90AmpsWould Big3+90Amp alt+2AWG Wire be sufficient for a Sundown 1500D [or 1000D] and a JBL GTO 75.4 II [104x4@4-ohm. I might use a Hifonix Amp I have laying around that's 100x2 @ 4... but the JBL is probably better quality] ? Edited April 11, 200817 yr by IDSkoT

April 11, 200817 yr I have a 1000wrms amp along with a 40wrms amp in my car right now. I have 0/1awg running the power back to a dist. block where it splits off to 4awg. The big 3 I would recommend for sure, but if you're willing to put the money out I would also run 0/1awg back to the trunk. You can't go too big on wire, only to small.Someone else will tell you if 2awg wire is fine, I'm not too sure.
April 14, 200817 yr http://www.partsexpress.com/resources/powe...-calculator.cfmYou should use 1/0 ga for your battery to amp run.You might be okay with a 1000D on the stock system. At a minimum, I'd do a battery upgrade for the 1500D to something like an Optima or Kinetik. Ideally, you should upgrade your alternator.
April 14, 200817 yr i think you might be able to get by with your stock electrical, do the big 3 and mabe upgrade the battery to a kinetik...
April 21, 200817 yr I have a 1000D in my s10 on stock electrical with 4awg and it stays at or above 14v all day day long. Then again I'm only running it at 2ohms, so at least do the big three, it should help everything else out too, like your lights and stuff. But I would deffinatly go the route of sundown, great people, great product... Just like Fi!
