sign into aim, click on options or file... one of the options is join chat than enter the chatroom name. ( I use trillian so I don't know all of the tabs.

The chat room here has been around for a little while. It will get busy now and again. Mark recently integrated with the database so that you don't have to log in, just click the chat link at the top and TADA!.

You don't have to use AOL's program to use AIM. There's plenty of alternative programs out there that don't have embedded stuff in them.
