so I was just curious, as to the pros and cons of either amp...

or what US amp would compare to a sundown, or if the even can be compared...

I just keep hearing from a buddy, who seems to know more than me about car audio, that the old US stuff is hard to beat.

The VLX is a heck of an amplifier. Rare and very powerful. But, it is very long and hard to find a good mounting place in most cars. Also, I believe it really needs some serious current to get the most out of it. The US Amp will retain serious value due to its age and rarity. For daily use and repair ability, I would vote Sundown. It is proven to really take serious abuse and keep going. Maybe the Ferrari F430 to the Corvette Z06 analogy is a good one. Similar performance, one much rarer then the other, the other better suited for daily usage, both excellent power and performance from both.

I don't know about old and being hard to beat. The construction of all things real these days is far superior to older models, however normally in the bang for the buck realm a used amp will beat a new one. In the case of the amp you chose, you cannot even say that though. Nothing at all wrong with either choice. :)

The ferrari to Vette anaolgy works well as it pertains to feeding the thing and fixing it as well. The VLX is a Class A/B and will require a huge battery bank and a good alternator as well. If you cook it you will pay dearly to fix it.

cool.

yeah the downsides to the US amp, are the A/B class current draw, and size for sure....

Im still leaning hard to sundown, its hard not to.

might have the funds shortly now.... fing05.gif
