July 13, 200817 yr Between these two, I would go with the D5100. It has more capacity and is made to be used as a starting battery. When using the 1200 size for starting you should look into the S1200 as it already comes with the auto terminals and the protective metal case to prevent it from swelling from high engine temps. The D5100's and up are constructed with extra thick plastic to reduce the risk of swelling.
