building a normal box but using two layers of 3/4 mdf all around, which way would be the strongest? i know the first would be the easiest with less cutting, but would number 2 be so much stronger that i should definetly go with that method?

Honestly, I wouldn't worry about it. Just make sure all your joints are straight, and you have all long sides supported in the middle where they have the most potential to flex. "Window" bracing is invaluable if you're really trying to make the enclosure "dead".

I would go with number 2, because if its worth doing its worth doing right. The way the braces all share the same contact points in the first pic make for slightly weaker joints & a bigger chance of not coming out truly square. The 2nd pic staggers the corners & adds more side bracing to the contacts (if that makes any sense, kinda hard to explain).

But the differences are probably negligible anyway.

Also a bit harder but I would consider lining the panels up in a pinwheel fashion, if that makes no sense I can draw a pic for ya.
