hi guys im new to the forum

first off, im not a car audio expert, im gonna get a new car soon and im planning on getting new bass on it. listen to mostly rap, hip hop, techno

ive heard of JL w6v2 w/ jl 500/1 it sounded great it really hits the low notes. i was planning on getting that setup until i found the Fi Q's, sounds to me they're cheaper and supposely better so i guess im going with the Q's

im mainly going for SQ rather than SPL so im going for the 1-12" Q:

1)what amp should i power it with? (i read around the forum i found sundown SAE-1000D, to be honest i never even heard of sundown are they any good? as gay as it sounds i rather go with a mainstream brand such as JL)

2)Dual 1 or 2? (i don't know the difference? is it the ohm 1 is one and the other is 2? what does that mean?)

3)what kinda "off-the-shelf" box would be good for it? i want ported and not much space (not much of a box builder myself so i think im just gonna buy a box, looks are important too)

4)am i gonna go wrong getting a Q instead of W6?

thanks guys for your opinion

1) Sundowns are great amps....although they aren't mainstream, they are a very reputable company. I love my Sundown 100.2

2) If you get dual 1, you will wire it to 2 ohms. This would be good for a JL amp because of they put out the most power from 1.5-4 ohms. But if you end up getting a Sundown amp, you'll want to get a dual 2 ohm sub so you can wire it to 1 ohm.

3) There are a lot of people on this forum who can build a box for you. Just ask around and you'll find them no problem. Mlstrass, Fisher Customs, Mr. Cabinetry, to name a few.

4) I think going with a Q is a great choice. I own a Bl and the build quality is excellent. I also have a SSA Icon and although I have very limited time with it, I'm loving it so far. Definitely up to par with Fi. There are a ton of subs that can be recommended but I don't want to make your decision harder than it already is. The Q or Icon in a sealed box will definitely achieve what you are looking for.

what kinda how much watts should i get on the amp?

well since im prob gonna spend up to 1k (a lot of money to me) i really hope i won't regret it

The quality of the goldwood boxes is great. Bad thing about the ported box is they don't give full dimensions to check the port math.

Let me call my contact at goldwood tomorrow and see if he can get me full dimensions of that box.

not necessarily

my Q12 is ported at 34hz and it sounds unbelievable.

How annoying of you...

I listen to my music, and I doubt other people will enjoy what I listen too. Why force it upon them?

You say you want "SQ"... well son, you'll be wanting a sealed box then.

IN YOU OPnion

you said you wanted to go for SQ.... now your talking about SPL..... what do you want!...

and you also said that space is an issue ... well ported is allways a larger box.

and dont say the couple houses away thing... u will cut away alot of your help.... just say you want to be about to hear it when your having an outdoor party

well i think i rather get ported cause i want people to hear at least couple houses away

Talk about immaturity. People like you are the reason why car audio is looked down upon.

not necessarily

my Q12 is ported at 34hz and it sounds unbelievable.

I'm sure it does, but have you played your sub in a sealed enclosure for comparison?

Haha. It's too late now. We know what his motives are.
