Posted August 1, 200817 yr Is it safe to run a single fully loaded 18'' BL on a Rockford T2000 @ 1ohm?
August 1, 200817 yr From what i've gathered, maybe not... I think the most people ever suggest is 1500w. IF you did use that amp, maybe only for short durations. You should be able to tell if it likes to emit a smell when playing.
August 1, 200817 yr I've said it once..i'll say it again. If you don't abuse it, it will take the power. If you abuse it..it simply won't.
August 1, 200817 yr Author It would be used daily for music, no comps/burps. So playing it fairly loud for, lets say, 30 minutes straight would likely cause failure with that amp on a BL? What about a BTL? Is the T2000 enough for one of those? I have seen quite a few people run 2500-4000 RMS to each BTL....

Is the T2000 enough for one of those? I have seen quite a few people run 2500-4000 RMS to each BTL....ugh. There are so many things wrong here I don't know where to begin.1) Depends on your definition of loud. If you play the sub to it's maximum potential without overdoing either the thermal or mechanical limits (whether that's "fairly loud" to you is subjective), that sub will play continuously for days, weeks, months, years on that amp. Just because it's 2000 watts RMS doesn't mean it puts out 2000 watts RMS all the time.2) T2000 can be enough or too much for a BTL. Depends on the enclosure. The BTL will handle 2000 RMS thermally but it may be limited mechanically by the box.3) Again, just because the amp is rated for 2500-4000 watts RMS doesn't mean they're actually putting that much to the sub. Conversely, you could give the BTL 5000 watts for a few seconds and it would probably take it in the right box. So running that much power depends on a lot of factors about whether it is safe or not.
August 2, 200817 yr Author Thanks for the responses and I apologize for asking stupid questions. But if I don't ask then I won't learn...Sooooo.....when you guys talk about ''the right box'' is there something special that I need to know? Or does this just mean the correct 5-10 cubic feet and the right tuning frequency? When I build the box I was going to make it 6 cubic feet after braces tuned to 32hz. Is the a good box for safety of the woofer mechanically and thermally? And by 'correct gains' do mean to just keep it from clipping? Someone clue me in please...And my definition of loud is about 80% of capable output. Sorry for not making that more clear.
August 3, 200817 yr Author And what does the ''12-16 square inches of port area per cubic foot'' mean?
August 3, 200817 yr Sooooo.....when you guys talk about ''the right box'' is there something special that I need to know? No. No one can tell you what the perfect sound is. That is for your preferences. What kind of sound you want decides what kind of box you make. And the box you make decides the sound you get.And my definition of loud is about 80% of capable output. Sorry for not making that more clear. What the hell? That still means nothing... Edited August 3, 200817 yr by chad
August 3, 200817 yr Author No. No one can tell you what the perfect sound is. That is for your preferences. What kind of sound you want decides what kind of box you make. And the box you make decides the sound you get.OK.......I already knew that......I was asking if the tuning frequency and size of the box would be safe for the woofer....................

That still means nothing...And yes, it does. 80% of what that sub/amp combo can do without clipping means something to me............... Edited August 3, 200817 yr by nathan89

If you want to hit the whole spectrum then tune low. But if you want the few extra dB's then tune a little higher. But just go with the recommended tuning for the BL's. I know its on the Fi website. All of the specifications are there too. Go with the recommended and then play around later.

Dude all I'm asking is if the box I want to build is what you guys call ''safe'' I already said the box I was planning would be 6 cubes tuned at 32hz....Am I fudgeing trippin or something???
August 3, 200817 yr What the f...? You don't need us to tell you if your box is within specifications. Just look at the damn numbers. And think about your questions before you ask them.Don't get aggressive with people who spend time to help you reach your goal. Talk about disrespect... Edited August 3, 200817 yr by chad
August 4, 200817 yr You want to know what's safe for the woofer?Practically any size box is safe... what isn't safe is setting your subsonic filter wrong for a ported box or clipping your amp. There is no "safe" box. There are "optimal" boxes which gives best sq\spl output. Now, i don't know what size is best for the 18 but i do know that Fi generally wants people to tune to 32hz, that's for sure.
August 4, 200817 yr The box you suggested (6 cubes at 32 hz) will work. However, it will likely not handle all 2000 watts from that amp, so be careful. You'll most likely be above the mechanical as well as thermal power handling capabilities.
August 4, 200817 yr play nice or don't play at all, i'm not a bit afraid of giving a vacation from here for a weekNow i've got tons of stuff to do, if you continue to bicker you will get a vacation from here for a while, I don't care who did what where when how..whatever.This is a place for information and to ask questions, if you can't play nice do not play at all.
