i'm building two enclosures

one sealed and one vented

3/4" mdf

my dims are 17-18" high {could go either way a little bit more}

41" wide{also have room over the wheel wells if needed}

depth as needed

running off an saz 1500d

i am looking for the best all around sound

this will see all kinds of music at differing levels

[daily driver, wife two kids}

i'm not looking for every last .01 db

but every once and awhile it will have to take a pounding

would anyone be able to help me come up with a design for the ported ?

any thoghts on the sealed, with those dims it will end up not very deep.

is that a problem sound wise, with it being so slim and wide or should i make it more cube like?

thanks for any help

no recomendations

not even what type of ported enclosure

is it because its for a variety of music types?

or not just for spl comps?

well my new q 15 should be here on tuesday,

and i had hope of having an enclosure together

before it got here.

i figured what better place to get the best posible sounding

design than at the source.

or is it that i need to be offering $$$$$$$$$$

No one probably said anything because your stuff is really cluttered and you're not really giving us sufficient information.

You are basically asking us about a box design, so I don't think money is an issue.

What are your goals?

16hx36wx22d sub up port back. port size 34.5wx2.5hx36d on bottom of box facing hatch it will need to be a two peice port to get correct length. the box is 5.93cf before port and sub displacement after it comes to 3.94cf tuning is just under 30hz it will have killer low end and still get loud. you will need to set a subsonic filter at 20hz to prevent damage to the sub enjoy

chad now that i read back your right.

dbjunior thanks alot , is that a design that you have used?

this is something i worked up on my own, what do you think ?

3/4 mdf

15.5 x 15.5 39.5" inside

port h15.5 x w3.75 x L35.34 "inside

sub and port back

sub on drivers side, port verticle on pasenger side

the best i can tell is it would be 30 hz and 3.87 cuft net for sub

and i figured on 1 pcs of 2x2 to brace the front to the back near the middle

is this even close to right ?

i noticed your port area is bigger{port calculator also bigger than mine}

fi lists 12-16 sq" per cuft ,is this to small ?

or should i just use bdjuniors design?

thanks for the help

db junior wont that port be right at the top wall of the box,

just about choaking it ?

or am i looking at this the wrong way ?

the port should look like an s not L with the height of 16in you will still have plenty of room under the sub for clearence of the bottom of the sub. sub up port back is a very well proven design for suv's the port area is also calculated for the box before displacment so it will fit in the fi specs. i have a q18 in a really large box 13.34cu before displacement with 174sqin of port area tuned to 28hz after displacement it is under 10 cu. the sub slams, absolutley loves the lows and still handles the higher frequencys nicely build it like i said and you will surely be happy remember sub up port back with port on bottom

hey dbjunior,

i was wondering, you said to calculate port area before displacement.

i have read to calculate after ALL displacements including port vol.

just want to get this figured out for my self, any thoughts ?
