Posted August 21, 200817 yr i have a question about a system i plan to build, i have a 07 monte carlo. i plan to get the rockford power 1000 5 ch, from all the reviews and info i found on it the sub channel makes about 900 rms. i dont know which way i wanna go with the subs, should i get two 12s at 500 rms a piece or a single 15 at 1000 rms. from what i found about most subs i looked at for a single 15 the ported box size is about the same as two 12s in a ported box. as for the install i dont want it to take up the whole trunk so i want to build a box around 3.5 to 4 3ft. but what combination would sound better, i like rap mostly and i like it loud. thanks for the info in advance.
August 21, 200817 yr probably two 12's. more cone area, more displacement. But it also depends on the subs you choose. If you are thinking about 12" subs from one manufacturer and a 15 from another line, it will be apples to oranges and the 15" could be better. My first comment applies only to those subs in the same model.
August 21, 200817 yr Admin I would personally prefer the pair of 12's sealed because many 12's can excel in 1.0 cube per giving you only a 2.0 cube box, compared to a 15" ported that many need 3.25 cubes or larger.
August 21, 200817 yr My opinion is 1 15" sub. reasons ..... (1.) there are alot of great choices of 15" subs that handle around 1000 watts (2.) in the proper enclosure they are very versitile from SQ to all out SPL. (3.) I like the choices you have for a single 15 1000 watts over the 2 12's @ 500 watts each. now these are only my opinions, and that is why I am running a single 15 right now

August 21, 200817 yr Author i havent really narrowed it down to the manufacurer but ive considered:12s rockford p3 or 15 T112s kicker l5 or 15 l7i was also looking at something less mainstream like FI or image dynamics
