Posted September 7, 200817 yr The subs I'm most likely getting are the Mach 5 IXL-12.2.2...two of them, and they are only Dual 2.With the Orion, I'd need to run it @ 0.5 ohm. With the Directed, I can run it @ 2 ohm. With the Directed, it has to come across the border.Which would you get? I can get both for the same price, but the Directed has to come across the border..

September 7, 200817 yr Author Doesn't put out as much power @ 2 ohm.It still does over 1kW at 2, right?1700@ 20hm according to AmpGuts

September 7, 200817 yr If you want to run the Orion at 0.5 you will be spending a fair amount on getting a good electrical system. Even the Directed is going to need quite a bit of juice. I'm going with Jim on this one. Get the Orion and run it at 2 ohms. Less risk of failure and less strain on the electrical system

September 7, 200817 yr This one is easy. the Directed amps are named reflecting maximum power, not rms, so your 2400 is really only 1200 RMS.The orion puts down 1700 @ 2ohms, the directed is rated at 1200 @ 1 ohm or 400 at 4 ohms, so at 2 it's probably around 8-900. It is literally only half as powerful. so even at 2 ohms the orion > directed. The directed is not even comparable
September 7, 200817 yr I was waiting on this Sorry sir, but the Directed is a very stout amp. Just like the amps it shares boards with. Directed 2400d: Viper D2500.1: Memphis 2000D : JBL BPx 2200.1 : Same thing (minor diffrences in N-fet and P-fet count on the BPx). If you want, I've got the schematic handy and I can email it to you to convince yourself Solid 2500w I still regret I sold my Viper. You can run them all at 1 ohm with a bit of cooling help.
September 7, 200817 yr eeeehhh sorry i was thinking of the new "D2400" not the old "2400d" i forgot about those. The new one is 1200 RMS at 1 ohm and fused for 120 amps i believe (the newer curved heatsink model)so i stand corrected. reading > me
September 7, 200817 yr well both amps are probably pretty close in terms of efficeincy but i would say the orion may make slightly more power at .5, but make alot more heat and draw more current so i'd go with the directed. it's probably the more reliable route

September 9, 200817 yr Hey i would buy the Orion 2500D if you dont need it...just let me know where i can get it from. Thanks
September 9, 200817 yr Admin I vote Orion, I ran mine at 8ohm mono and 4 ohm mono more then 1ohm or lower.
