Is 2000 watts enough power for a Fi Q 18?

Also I was wondering what would be better in my Dodge Ram Quad cab, its going to be inside the cab.

2 Fi Q 12's in a sealed box with 1.2 cubic ft per chamber or 1 Fi Q 18 in a sealed box with 5 cubic feet

imo is it more then enough power for that 18,

what combo would be better has more to do with space and goals.

Its a Fusion 2000 watt. I also have an Autotek 1500

Let's see....RMS - 1000 watts. Yep I'd say you could blow it with 2000 pretty easily.

Gain set your amps with an oscope and be responsible on the volume knob and it shouldn't be an issue...

I feel like this is getting repeated every other thread, but just because you have an amp that does a certain amount of power doesn't mean you need to send the driver all of that. If your output goals are met with 500W, well, then 500W is all the power you need.

It's doubtful anyone would actually notice a difference by ear. Now, in competition an extra 500W might make a difference, and it might make a difference for someone who doesn't know how their equipment is working and is sending more power than the driver can handle otherwise

A commonly quoted number is 3dB for the threshold of what's perceptible...in theory that would require either doubling or halving the power to make a difference, but any SPL competitor will tell you that theory doesn't always work out so well in real life

If you know scott by now, you would know that the 1K RMS rating on a stock Q is below what they actually handle rated... (scott mentions this in several post here)

Without the BP option the Q can handle up to 1300 watts... after that, as nick stated to me "over 1300 watts the Q starts to get pissed off"

1300 watts stock plus 500 watts BP option = 1800.....

Actually, power handling may be much more affected by the alignment you choose, rather than the "BP" option.

If you choose an alignment that will get full stroke out of your driver with most of the music you listen to with a given amount of power, well, then adding more power is stupid.

Saying a driver "Needs to get it's RMS" is really a dumb thing also, since the RMS power handling and power requirements have absolutely nothing to do with each other.

1000 watts is more than enough for any subwoofer to perform well, especially if you know what you are doing.

do you not read specs before you buy a 400 dollar sub. damnit its all about the gainssssssss.

The smallest amp I had on mine was rated for 800wrms at the load I presented it with and it was enough output for satisfaction. If you're over 1500wrms to it daily, I would suggest keep your ears and nose on standby for anything the sub tells you it don't like.

Enough??? Could you ask a more subjective and less useful question please? 2000w on any sub is MORE THAN ENOUGH, in particular if you don't describe your goals. The search function works really well on here

Im a fan of running way more power than what I will ever use simply for headroom. BUT... most people run every single Watt out of their amps, then turn it to 11 on all the knobs. In that regard I say stick to the ratings.

If you understand how to properly set up a system with respect to the enclosure, system voltage/amperage, gains, filtering (especially subsonic in ported) then running more than the rated RMS is rarely an issue if used for dynamic headroom.
