I recently purchased a new car, one that I would actually be proud to put some money into and I am looking into buying some subwoofers for some extra thump when it comes to my car's audio system. I am on a tight budget knowing I am a college student. I would not mind having two subwoofers, but I know that would be extra money, so even just one sub with an amp would make me very happy. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good sub and amp. I dont need top of the line equipment, I just want a sub with some good sound that wont hurt my pocketbook too much. Thanks guys!

Are you talking about the entire system or just taking the approach of a sub and an amp, and that's it? :)

it would also help to know more specifically what you want in a system, like saying what kind of music you listen to, and such would help

For now, I am talking just sub and an amp...I will build on the system later when I have more money...And I would consider my music taste very eccletic...anything from Dave Matthews, to Underoath, to some occasional rap...all stuff with good bass rhythms, I think haha

If it were me and I had those musical tastes, I would probably go with something nice like a Havoc or Q in a sealed enclosure, just me though.

Ok thanks for the recommendations. I found an Alpine amp for around $100. Anything good about Alpine subs? What would ya'll recommend as far as amps go just for a single sub with around 1000W. I also found some subs on Ebay. They were called Blue Wave subs....anyone ever heard of them? Here is the link for those if anyone wants to look at them

For any car audio recommendations, try this forum. Lots of knowledge and experience there.

hi...i was directed here out of recommendation that i can find what im looking for here. i too am in the exact same situation as drummerman. im also a college student and just recently bought a 98 eclipse spyder. trunk is kinda small (like my budget) so nothing too crazy. i listen to almost anything on the radio since it depends who else is in my car. but its mainly on z100, hot 97, and 105.9.

any help with recommendations would be great. looking for a sub and amp kit that wont push me past ~$500. thanks in advance

ps- a link to picture and/or prices would be great. my first time buying a system so idk what most of them look like.

convertibles usually suck for sub installs, I'd recommend saving your money and putting a little more in your budget.

Check out the vendor forums here and the shop link at the top of the page. Companies like fi car audio and sundown audio are your friend.

So I was looking around and found two different subs. They are good for my price range considering I need an enclosure and an amp. I would like everyones input on them though, considering the fact I am not real knowledgeable about car audio equipment.

This first one is 2 Dual subs with a box, are these reliable?

The second one is just a single Kenwood, which is fine with me that it is just one. Which would be a better buy, if either?

why don't you try checking out some used equipment? you can get a lot more for your money that way.

Check out the for sale section here on the forum. You can get a lot more for your money's worth there.

You really should do it the other way...especially if you're a musician, you'll know when something sounds bad :)

Alpine speakers yes alpine subs no. Go with a JL audio w7. And your gonna hurt your pock book with a GOOD system. you can have a chitty 600$ system at circuit city lol

Ignore this post. For your needs the w7 doesn't make sense at all.
