ok, i posted this in the general section, then realized there was a specific Fi section

ok, currently i have an old Orion H2. great sub, but its starting to make popping noises, i don't have a warranty, and i'd rather just buy a new sub than try to fix it.

so right now im looking at the 18" Fi BL. anybody have any experience with the BL compared to the Q? any significant difference in SQ or SPL?

it will be in a 6-6.5 cu. ft ported with 1200 watts...any decibel estimates?

or does anybody have any idea what Fi's new line will be?

new to this forum,

thanks for any help

-Chris

What are your goals and listening preferences with the system?

well, im happy with the SQ of my H2 (pre-popping noises of course). so im not sure how that would compare to Fi

as far as loudness, my buddy has 2 type r 12's sealed: to me, thats loud enough for daily, but i want to be able to beat his system

Would you rather beat him out or sound good.

Please just pick one

volume or quality

actually nick you make a good point, but not in this case. lol he said 2 type rs sealed is loud enough... you will smash him, get low and sound quite decent with an 18inch q in a 7cube box ported 29-33ish with 1200rms watts. thats of course if the install is done right and the box is designed well

Oh trust me I know :P

I'm trying to see whether or not he should go sealed or ported w/ his 18...

And I would personally recommend a AA Havoc 18 if you can get it...

If not, I'd say go w/ a 18 Q w/ BP option.

Do you already have an amp, and if so, which one?

well, an 18" sub ported should beat 2 12"s sealed. im hoping the Fi will sound better, but its not a huuuge deal

i have an Orion d2400

I personally think the Q sealed or ported will beat them...

You sound like you want to go ported.

Just answer this for me:

What kind of music do you listen to?

when i crank it up, its always rap. when i listen to rock and stuff i genereally turn the bass down a bit

99 out of a 100 times when people ask this question they are really BL buyers and shouldn't be looking at the Q. I am pretty sure that fits for you as well.

Get a BL, port it, and enjoy.

Yupp BL ported for sure.

thats what i was thinking initially.

now i just got to get on designing a box

is it pretty much necessary to use 1" MDF for these babies?

if using 6 cu before displacment id use a 15 not an 18 get the ble big box lots of port and tune to like 32hz 6 cu with 84sq in of port tune to 32hz will have about 4.4cu after displacment better for a 15 than 18

6 ft is an estimate. i could probably get it up to about 7 or 8 if i squeee it in

what type of vehicle is it going in 8cu is a large box. the q likes the larger boxes and is more of a sealed box sub the bl18 will do fine with 8cu ported. what size was your old sub and what type of box was it in

basically, as long as i dont get any significant mechanical noise from the sub, or leaky noises from the box (which depends on my ability to build it), i'll be happy with the SQ. cause right now, my setup sounds like chit at high volume
