Posted January 23, 200520 yr I build things out of wood.I'm tired to building subwoofer enclosures. I'm tired of building coffee tables, end tables, grandfather clocks, cigar boxes, pens, bowls, desks, etc.Anyone else have any brilliant ideas for a good project? I'm about to get started on something, but my house doesn't need any more useless clutter that just sits around.I thought of a coffee table with a subwoofer enclosure in it ... I don't have an amp to power it with so forget it.Thought of a poker table ... would get used for a few weeks and then put in the basement with everything else, so forget it.Bookcase? TV cabinet? Already have a cabinet and I can't read.- Steve

January 23, 200520 yr Author I've already built a deck And a shed for that matter. Thanks for the ideas though, I will think about a new shed.I think I'm going to go fine woodwork route, interior as well.- Steve

January 23, 200520 yr Make a big entertainment center custom fit to all of your new ht equipment that you should be getting
January 23, 200520 yr Author I've had visions of that ... room in the middle for a nice TV, with built in cabinets for the speakers and some nice shelving for the electronics.I bet it'll boil down to me building 30 subwoofer enclosures out of MDF and selling them.
January 23, 200520 yr We have a nice setup like that at my house in Jennings. I can take a pic of it for you if you want.
January 23, 200520 yr Author When you get a chance and if it's no big deal, go for it. It'll be nice to see what other use and to be able to incorporate certain design features with others.- Steve

Depending on the project/shipping options ... might be a good idea. I sell for cheap, as well. Thanks for the suggestions, Nick.- Steve<{POST_SNAPBACK}>Pool table would be awesome (if you like pool) as well as semi-challenging. Lil margin for error regarding the playing surface, leveling, & support. I dunno costs on slate. Of course, you could make the walls & fram rather ornate. I can work something out regarding shipping... I can hop into canadia without much of a problem. Would have to find a way to setup a delivery address. Also would have to figure out how to get you a proper schematic. The couple of things that I have in mind are slightly complex (having to accomodate outcroppings of walls), then a few easy things (horizontal coat rack, nice Lg Volume magazine rack, all sorts of storage for in the garage, etc). I can provide tons of digi-pics for the workspace. I dunno if you'd rather have me draw up plans or just provide you a working area... Also, regarding shipping. If you started selling woofer boxes to the kiddies, and if I am able to setup a Canadian address... I could re-ship the american items for you. Not sure if it's really worth it for you to ship across the country to me, and then from here on out. I've only had to send things up north, have yet to receive. Though, on the occasions that I've sent, it's been somewhat of a PITA.-Nick
January 25, 200520 yr Author It is a PITA sending across the line. When you find time, shoot me some example pictures of what you are looking at. Eastern maple, mahogany, ash, cherry, oak, etc ... I'll put up some pictures after of a few things I've built that I have around the house. This could turn out really cool - Steve
January 26, 200520 yr Author Took a couple quick shots of some things laying around the house.Coffee table - glass top, Eastern Maple, tapered legs, etc. The pictures make the wood appear to be dark - I'm sure you know what Eastern Maple looks like (more white than dark).http://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...ent=coffee1.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...ent=coffee2.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...ent=coffee3.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...ent=coffee4.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...ent=coffee5.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...nt=P1010822.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...nt=P1010823.jpghttp://photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/...nt=P1010824.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010825.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010826.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010827.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010828.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010829.jpgCouple jewelry boxes - one with the lid is birch, one with the drawer is eastern maple once again. Oiled with oil that is food safe I think that one is just over an inch thick. Top design (blood drain) is cut by computerized router. I have another one where one corner is like a little cup if you can picture such a thing. Blood/juice drains from the channels into there until dumped out. Again, cut by computer router.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010838.jpghttp://img.photobucket.com/albums/v144/ss3079/P1010839.jpgMy kitchen - all out of birch. January 26, 200520 yr fyi- the first few links do not work (they're direct links to your photobucket, not "img.photobucket...").Very nice looking work. You've definately put a lot of time & love into that kitchen. I'm jealous... LoL.I'll snap you a few pics over the next couple of evenings. Also try to work on a few diagrams in Paint (I'll shoot for semi-to scale) or something similar for a few things. Lemme know what you think.I like the jewelry box... I think April would love one. Most of our collections are oak, birch, or ash. Not too much of a fan of the darker breeds at home. She & I both prefer a light, airy feeling at home. I'd be honored to furnish a couple of rooms with the Steve Collection.. Before anything else though, I'm going to look into the shipping/receiving issue. -Nick
January 26, 200520 yr Author Definitely look into the shipping part of it.A small item such as the jewlery box shouldn't be too much. And the kitchen took a fair amount of time to complete - Steve
January 26, 200520 yr how bout a little boat in a bottle or better yet can you build me a double reinforced crate to put my wife in
January 26, 200520 yr Author Lol ... I probably have one of those crates laying around Standard finishing process:1. Spray sealer. Let dry half an hour.2. Sand with 220.3. Spray second coat of sealer. Let dry over night.4. Sand with 220 - no imperfections.5. Spray first coat of laquer. Let dry one hour.6. Second coat of laquer. Let dry over night.7. Steel wool and furniture polish - for the shine.8. Buff wax coat on - for protection. But Nick can get whatever he wants As an example, the total cost of wood for the coffee table pictured above was only around 60 bucks. The glass was only 10. 60 bucks worth of wood transformed into something some people sell for thousands, which is nuts.- Steve
