what is so scary about a little spark. Also, ive found that if i disconnect my security system and close my doors there is little or no spark when reconnecting the negative terminal of hte battery.

Don't think so.

It's a long drive from NC, and I don't have any of my stuff I've ordered that I wanted to bring back to the apartment. I can't justify a five hour drive just for that.
