I enjoy discussing sound deadener with ppl. The science behind it is fun. That being said most ppl don't have a clue.

I cannot say enough at how much a difference it was when we thinsulated my roof. Was huge for this super cold, curious as to how it will do with the very hot days. I can make it almost all the way to work and there will be frost still on the top because most of the heat from the cabin did not make it up. :)

Did insulating the roof help with road noise or just help trap the sound in the car?

I believe my next step is going to be filling the a-pillar base with expanding foam. I think there is alot of road noise traveling up from the front fender through the open camber inside that area of the car body.

Even though there is no mass, thinsulate works like MLV as an absorber. The long fibers are a bit "magic".

So would the old standby CLD + CCF + MLV be improved by substituting the Thinsulate for the MLV? or by substituting the Thinsulate for the CCF? or by adding Thinsulate to the party?

Thinsulate needs to be used in the "other" direction. It REALLY excels when the waves have to travel along it instead of right through it.

I need to look into deadening the bird. Keep some road noise out.

BTW Anyone have any opinions on wrapping REALLY hot headers? I am wrapping mine as they throw a shit ton of heat.

That car will be a MESS to sound deaden. Just wasn't built well enough to make much headway. In my Silverado it quickly became apparent that to improve anything I'd have to do something with all the window and door seals as they were terrible and its worlds better than your bird.

I figured it would be. I have something like 60 sq ft of Second Skin (I know the feelings towards that brand's history here) just sitting on the shelf. My thoughts were if I layered the floor and door panels (inside part of the outer sheet metal) that I MIGHT be able to get some of that road noise to go away. I am not expecting that distinctive THUD when the doors shut, but perhaps a little bit better road noise blocking.

Always start with the problem. What do you mean by road noise/

Shit, new macbook air is starting at $1000, but the fucker doesn't have a cd drive. Normally I wouldn't give a shit, but makes booting a live cd kinda hard.

Since it's Apple, you can't boot from a usb unless it's osx, so the only option is buying their external drive.

Bleh, back to regular macbook.

Ok music is down, and I just put the transmission in N as I approach the stop signs. I can hear the little pebbles pop up and hit the undercarriage, hear the rumble of the car passing over the mediocre, smooth asphalt. Its that rumble I want gone. I can hear it even more with the T-tops on and windows up. I guess what I am after is just wanting to make it so I am hearing the motor and/or the music more than the ambient noise around me.

What do you have against walls? I don't really care about back seats or selling the car(reversing it to it's original state for sale). :)

Same thing I have against huge boxes only one step further.

That is?

It's not his cup of tea.

Adds excessive weight to the car, and back which is even worse, front end is less weighted, less handling, slower, takes up space. There are many reason why it's not wanted, but that doesn't stop people like you or me from doing it.

Same reasoning as to why he would either use no subwoofers, or a small subwoofer, and you would go "why that's not very loud, why don't you do something bigger?"

At least that's my guess.

Theres someone on this forum who doesnt like big woofers :ohnoes9:

After having a decent a front stage, it annoys me to raise the bass level to where it starts to drown out the midbass, it just doesn't sound right.

Now if I could place some 10" midbass drivers like Jared, maintain some decent imaging, and in turn raise the bass level up a bit more, I'd be a happy camper--happy deaf camper at that point. :P

I'd guess there is a factory amplifier somewhere, whether it be directly below the headunit, behind glove box, under a seat, I do not know. :P

Oh but now I do: near firewall, on driver's side

They say it's a bitch to put back in, I don't even know why you would take it out, I don't even know why I assumed you would, I don't even know why I made an assumption from nothing. :trippy:

hmmm, maybe incorporated in the factory subwoofer. Would be nice if i could use it to power some components up front lol

WHat?! Say that again. :P

If I was smd, I'd sell leds (brighter then normal leds), wire (handles more current), cap (works for lots of current demand), and a comp set (they simply sound better then everything else, no ifs ands or buts), I be rich!

Maybe we could go into business together. I have lots of leds, all sizes to.

I honestly couldn't do that, selling stuff and not being honest about it. If I wouldn't buy it I won't sell it.

Half way there, just need to start a mega fanbase, time for youtube videos!

The pebbles you can be rid of, the rumble requires new exhaust.
