never seen someone mix Evercoat and resin together; Adrian, Sean, Tirefryr, anyone else with fiberglass experience, thoughts?

It's called milkshake. tongue.png

I know if you do the layer too thick the shit will likely crack.

I've had good results with using cab-o-sil instead. Once your layers are sanded down. Mix resin with cab-o-sil, and brush over. The cab-o-sil is small silica glass IIRC, and thickens the resin. So using too much can crack as well, but it's very easy to get a smooth finish from a light coat, and a little bit of sanding.

You can find it at us composites.

That's all I have to show for it. Quentin (Audibel Customs) would likely have more as he was the one who told me about it.

Milkshake you say? Some sick bastard must have thought up that name.

That would be very fucked up indeed.

Although I already suggest using a respirator when dealing with resin, I would definitely use one when dealing with the cab-o-sil. I'm sure it would wreak havoc on the respiratory system.

sounds easier than the method I used last time I fiberglassed something

i added a router and it slowed my speed down... i was doing 30 megs... and now only 10...... is there anything i can do to help with my problem?

I'm presuming your doing this for a fridge/cooler, so I'm not sure this advice would help, but when I did the audio panels I found that using 3/4 oz chopped mat made everything easier. I had to use a bit more layers, but getting all the contours down was way easier.

Also depending on what type of resin you use (whether it contains wax or not), you may have to sand between layers to get good adhesion.

I remember rollerblading in like 3rd grade or something, and hearing that song in the rink.

I seriously love Best Buy and their lack of calling to tell me WTF is up.

Now I need to buy the wife a new remote start/alarm unit. Oh Joy!!!

The rubber boot on my tie rod end is ripped. can you replace the boot or do you have to replace the whole end?

2012-06-21_00-52-45_950.jpg

you can replace the boot if you didn't wait too long. if you don't have a "clicking" noise when you turn then it's all good.

It's a molded boot. You won't be able to find a replacement as they don't make them. They will for ball joints. The tie rod end should be fairly cheap anyways, so just buy a new end.

sounds good, they're pretty cheap.

is there any special procedure to the replacing the tie rod end to preserve the aliment?

Make a measurement of how long it is now, and when installing the new one, make sure it matches.

I was thinking of using 10 oz. woven cloth with epoxy resin, basically the same as you would a boat/canoe/kayak, then spray the whole thing with bedliner. Should be plenty durable I would think.

More or less XPS --> Cloth and resin --> "Milkshake" --> Bedliner. Might opt to spray a few layers of enamel over it since bedliner comes in any color you want, so long as its black. Kind of defeats the purpose of a "cooler".

I'm just thinking out loud though, feel free to stop me if I go a bit mad.

might not be much of a price difference between this and picking up a Yeti at their outlet center, looks like.

wow, what a slow night. maybe later i'll throw some tunes into the mix and leave out all main stream rap. Any request?

so i'm not feeling the music tonight. you all have a great night
