Even had a Gun & Knife show here in Lubbock today. Got to molest an untold amount of USP's, 1911's, XD's, Glock's, SiG's, Beretta's, AR's, AK's and more. SiG 227/229/250, Glock 17, H&K P30 9mm, H&K USP .45, Springfield XD9, and Beretta 92 were standouts for me. The XD45 and Glock 21 didn't feel as good in hand as their XD9 and Glock 17 counterparts, strangely.

How'd the HKs feel in comparison to the xds? Any xdms?

My father has an xd and hk, seems to feel more comfortable with the hk. Sorta funny but I haven't shot either.

At MSRP I would agree they are overpriced. The prices I saw for their customer returned/factory rejects are reasonable, though. The customer return models are given a new lid seal, new latches, and if necessary, new grab handles, so they're practically new, besides a few cosmetic blemishes.

They're made with a 0.50" roto-molded polyurethane outer shell, 2.00" inch polyurethane foam core, and 0.50" roto-molded polyurethane inner shell. They field test them by rubbing the outside of the coolers with raw meat, stashing the raw meat inside the coolers, then dropping them off in wooded areas that bears, mountain lions, and other predators are known to inhabi, then come back after a few weeks to pick them up. Lots of claw marks, teeth marks, scrapes and scuffs, but they have never managed to get to the meat inside.

That is a good point. I wonder if they put the meat inside, and didn't rub the outside, if animals would still find it. I'm guessing so, but if not then that would be pretty sweet for not attracting animals during camping.

Not sure if it was the p250, but I saw a sig at the shop the other day with a cool finish. It had a purple hue, but would change color slightly depending on the angle. I'm sure there's some term for it, but I'm drawing blanks.

Also got a Walther p22, that's pretty fun. Only downer is the mag doesn't hold many rounds, and even has a big plastic piece taking up space. Perhaps there's something aftermarket, but I haven't looked.

Yeah they had a few of those there too. Those are the .22LR Mosquitos; similar weight to the full size calibers but cheaper to load.

Factory replacement seals, hinges, and latches are available for all sorts of coolers, from Igloo, Coleman, Yeti, and others, Shouldn't be too hard to adapt them to a DIY cooler.

XPS is a superior insulator to polyurethane foam at refrigeration/freezer level temperatures anyhow (<498R/276K/38F/3C)

Well I can't say that we've needed a new cooler lately, or that the previous one failed at keeping our shit cold for everything we've done, but I'm always looking for projects to do in my spare time.

You can even do a cooler with ten layers of 20 oz. fibgerglass cloth & epoxy resin outer shell, 4 inches of XPS foam core, ten layers of 20 oz. fibgerglass cloth & epoxy resin inner shell construction, then Line-X the outside and enamel the inside for cheaper than the MSRP of a Yeti.

The local shop had a few 1911 springfield armory, and some were pretty cheap. Perhaps they were 22s though as I didn't pay too much attention.
