  • Chill- Lemme break it down as simple as I can on some of us here. The IHoP is like a big dysfunctional family. -M5 would be the uncle everyone respects and takes advice from. We may not like how he p

Theres not to many head options for modular motors, thats for sure.

Which the stock heads aren't crap by no means.

So does Ford think that just because Chevy is still using the ole pushrod design that is a direct descendant of the one designed in the '50's they need to bring their pushrod 5.0 back??

The only reasons I can think of for Ford to do this would be reduced production costs and less weight.

A Ford 5.0 is going to be really hard pressed to match a LS2 or LS3 for output though.

With equal displacement why do you think the general can extract more power than Ford?? That seems absurd, in particular since the Ford design will be all new and the LS is now nearly 10 years old.

Ford302Dipshit was talking about a new 5.0, which is a liter smaller than a LS2 and 1.2 liters smaller than a LS3. If Ford made them of comparable displacement, then yes, it probably would be a close match. Also, a LS3/LS7's head design is somewhat different than an old LS1. GM definitely hasn't been sitting on their thumbs since '97 when it comes to horsepower.

There just Ford haters.

You can't convince GM people of anything. They know there LS394384 was "Touch by the hands of God" /rant.

And this right here is why everyone makes fun of you.

opera handles torrents now?

And of course Ford isn't starting from scratch either. Hell if MoCrap can build a 6.1 that is reliable and turns out 420/420 it will be easy for Ford too. Plus they get to learn not only from GM & Mopar, but also all of the advances in the Nascar blocks over the past years. Hell in those, GM is pretty much copying Ford (at least according to the race teams I have visited).

But obviously comparing 5liters to 6liters isn't going to work out in the advantage of the 5L block if they are both pushrod engines. Personally I think it is a crap rumor that Ford is going down that road, instead I'd guess they further develop the Mod family.

When all out honest, a 4.6 mod motor is = to a ls1 power output.

BTW, thats with a 4valve head, and no power adder.

1998, first year for the LS1:

Horsepower was raised from 215 to 225 providing more power to get the car off the line as well as on the road!
http://mustangforums.com/timeline/1998-ford-mustang/
Horsepower 285.00 BHP (209.8 KW) @ 5200.00 RPM

http://www.conceptcarz.com/vehicle/z8063/C...Camaro_Z28.aspx

Last time I checked, 285 is more than 225

We've got a 4.6L V8 in the new E-150, not sure if it's the same Modular engine you're talking about...

I hate it :( Like the I6 in mine a lot more...

The only copy-cat feature I've heard of is the front-mount distributor, which is just common sense for a NASCAR car.

I don't think it's all that likely either.

LOL, you picked the weakest modular motor to compare.

Try 99 Mustang. Then look at the 99 Cobra.

99 Mustang GT: 260 horsepower @ 5250 rpm

99 Mustang Cobra: 305 horsepower

99 Camaro SS: 330 horsepower

The suspension is now a more equal partner to the sophisticated DOHC 32-valve 4.6-liter aluminum V-8, which gets more power this year. At least that's what Ford says. The engine received stronger bearings, and new intake ports and combustion chambers to increase tumbling of the fuel-air mixture. Ford also fitted the engine with coil-on-spark plug ignition and improved the knock sensor. With these changes, Ford rates this engine at 320 horsepower and 317 lb-ft of torque, 15 hp and 17 lb-ft more than the 1998 version. / Quote from your link.

Ah yes, I believe that 305 hp was talking about the '98 Cobra. No matter, 330 is still more than 320

Why would u compare a Vette to a Mustang?

Not even in the same class?

Because we're comparing LS1's to 4.6L mod motors. Just because they're in different vehicles doesn't mean the engines are different.

who cares about the engine, did either of them ever go in a car worth a shit?

beer time, i'm out
