  • Chill- Lemme break it down as simple as I can on some of us here. The IHoP is like a big dysfunctional family. -M5 would be the uncle everyone respects and takes advice from. We may not like how he p

Todd your geographical knowledge of the city you live in is amusing. White Bear Lake is N. of St Paul and is the biggest Metro lake outside of Tonka. Named WBL by the natives. It is barely out of the loop. (x94)

Lol state you mean? I am from Winona. A couple hours from the cities!

Ahh, didn't realize...even still. I knew where it was when I grew up, and that was in Moorhead. LOL.

Lol leave me alone. I'm just sheltered. lol

What's up tonight guys?

U.S. Transportation Secretary Mary E. Peters laid out the first set of new CAFE rules that will be implemented for passenger vehicles and light trucks from 2011 through 2015.

The first step on the path to 35 mpg by 2020 will be increases of 4.5% in CAFE standards for passenger vehicles and light trucks over the five-year period spanning 2011 and 2015. This means that standards for passenger vehicles will rise from the current 27.5 mpg to 35.7 mpg by 2015, while light trucks will go from 23.5 mpg to 28.6 mpg. The NHTSA claims the new interim standards will save 55 billion gallons of gasoline and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 521 million metric tons. They also claim that drivers will save $100 billion in fuel costs over the lifetime of vehicles that fall under the rule.

lol and he didnt do the welding on these

lmao

DIY spice rak?

my SD 100.4 refurb should be here tomorrow :)

how well do yal think it compares to my current amp kicker zx850.4

which is already sold to one of my colleauges at work

who is goin to running 12 6x9s off of it lol

so, 2002 Z71? 5.3, I assume?

If so, it's based on LS architecture and will respond well to all the normal mods

Are there any other "normal mods" the LS engines like? Truck is a DD so tearing into it too far is not an option.

:D , I can't wait to hear how it sounds

CAI, long-tube headers, cat-back, and a tune will be a very good start

from there.... the sky's the limit

I luv the sky

probably also toss in a 160* thermostat. LS series motors respond very well to nitrous... but it's not necessary.

Doesn't 160* Thermo= less gas mileage? Something I'm not too into, my foot will be killing it enough lol.

What do you mean is not necessary, the 160* thermostat?

Tom, what do you think the limit for mods on a DD? I mean the point where mods may take more than a weekend and you start sacrificing driveabilty and gas mileage for power. I have a feeling the answer is still "the sky" lol

The thermostat shouldn't really affect mpg at all. I believe he meant the nitrous isn't necessary. A 160* T-stat is usually a good thing to throw in.

Well, I know people who can swap engines in a weekend soo........ And there are people who drive 10-11 second LS-powered cars daily sooo....

But if you don't want to sacrifice any mpg, then the bolt-ons listed earlier are about the limit. CAI, headers, cat-back, t-stat, tuning won't (if you can keep your foot out of it) decrease mpg. If you race it at all, look in to upgraded pushrods. The factory ones are, by far, the weak link in the engine. They're a pretty easy swap too.

If it gets to the point of sacrificing some mpg, then there's heads/cam swaps, nitrous, gears, torque converter, turbo, supercharger, and engine swaps

I'll keep the pushrods in mind if things get serious. It would be really nice to have a fast truck on the street. Anything past the first mods is a distance future sort of deal, but always like to plan ahead. :)

Also one more question. with the headers I'm getting a true dual exhaust. 2.5" non-mandrel bent would be fine in a truck with no forced induction right? Just seems like if I find a place that does mandrel bends I'll really be paying for it

No one makes a pre-made mandrel bent kit for your truck?

It's strongly recommended to get mandrel bent pipes because normal bending can decrease cross-sectional area by up to 60% in the bends.

And as far as potential, there's a guy in Nebraska whose '03 Silverado runs low 10s and is putting out 1050hp, 1030 ft*lbs with turbocharged 408 LS (I believe that's the combo, only info I could find on it). And it's totally reliable and drivable as well.

EDIT: oh wait, it's a twin turbo http://www.diyautotune.com/cars/customer/p...turbo_truck.htm

Gas is 3.69 up here and it's supposed to keep going up :(

Oh, if anybody has a kid that's looking for a cell phone, here's a nice new way to say 'no': You're going to get hit by a car and die.

There's a lot of truth to that. For the last four years or so there's always been one or two people killed in pedestrian/vehicle meetings here...there's no way of knowing truly how many cell phones are involved on either side, but I'm willing to bet it's a bunch.

All the more reason to drive like every other living thing around you is absolutely pucking clueless. You aren't disappointed too often :D

Well, duh. If inshore was the goal; however, if you took that out on Tonka you'd end up with a milkshake your nuts would never let you forget. Something about 4' rollers and tons of huge boats that make flats boats really, really uncomfortable to ride in. In the skinny water though they are a blast.

Awwww, its not that uncomfortable :drink40::neil:

Nothing greater than having to wear a mouthgaurd while your under power . I'll stick to the bass boats and wave as I blow by :)
