Posted October 21, 200816 yr Hey guys,I'm looking for my first system! I want 2 12"s. I dont want to pay more than 250 a piece for each sub. I'm trying to stay under 1600 RMS for the two subs combined. I'm really choosing between 2 12" Fi SSD's, 2 12" Diamond Audio D6's, or 2 12" Alpine Type R's. I'm going to be putting them in a ported box as i listen to a lot of rap and hip hop. Which setup would be the best? Thanks guys.
October 21, 200816 yr Admin The SSD's are a quality choice. But the best is more so defined by the install.
October 21, 200816 yr Admin what about some iconsExcellent choice :bigclap: , but I think they are a little over what he budgeted.
October 21, 200816 yr Just a thought for you... you could get one really good 15.... Nightshade or Bl or whatever.... you will be down a little cone area, but you could save yourself some money possible.
October 21, 200816 yr And with a single 15" it cud just be as loud if not louder..Depending on the install..
October 21, 200816 yr Author would 2 SSD's be louder than 2 Type R's? Would 2 SSD's have better SQ than 2 Type R's? The SSD's are 300 more RMS than the Type R's, so I'd hope they'd be louder. would they be louder? I'll be getting a custom box made to specs from my local car audio shop. If I go with the type R's, I'd use the Cadence TXa-1000D to power them. If I went with the SSD's, I'd go with the Cadence DCA-1600. I'm really leaning towards the SSD's just because I want to go for something other than what a few of my friends have, two type R's. I'm just scared to purchase the SSD's because I've never heard them in person and don't know what to expect! also, what are the BP Power, flatwind, and other options that Fi offers with their SSD line? is there anyplace I can read about all of these? Thanks guys! Edited October 21, 200816 yr by Koon
October 21, 200816 yr I also like the idea of getting one 15''. It will save you some money and allow you to get a better quality amp. As said above look into a 15'' Sundown Audio Nightshade or 15'' Fi BL or 15'' SSA ICON. The BL and Nightshade would pair up great with a Sundown 1500d and the ICON would be great with the 1000d from Sundown. But if you are set on a pair of 12's the SSD are the superior choice over the Type R's in my opinion.
October 21, 200816 yr Author alright, well 2 12's have more cone area than 1 15. Would one 15" Fi Bl get louder than 2 12" Fi SSD's? Which setup would have better SQ? Thanks guys! Edited October 21, 200816 yr by Koon
October 21, 200816 yr its more in the install then cone area alot of times.... plenty of people around here have more cone area then i have but im much louder.
October 21, 200816 yr Author bigjon, have you heard the Fi BL's? How do they compare to the nightshades? Thanks much.
October 21, 200816 yr the bl's are more musical imo... but the nightshades hammer so hard.... both GREAT subs. i think you need the bl's
October 21, 200816 yr Author yea I think the BL's sound more for me. If you were me, would you go with one 15 BL or 2 12 SSD's? I'll be having a box made from my local car audio and they will be building it to specs and it will be ported.
October 21, 200816 yr Author alright sweet, i'm going to do some more research but that setup will definitely be on my mind. My friend's dad has one 12 jlw7. i'm hoping to have a system that's louder than this as I didn't find the 12w7 very loud at all. would one 15 BL be louder than 1 12w7? October 21, 200816 yr I would not recommend any current Alpine product. The Diamond D6's are pretty much crap and I own both.
October 21, 200816 yr Author more subjective questions it depends on the install he's got his 12w7 in JL's prowedge sealed box powered by a JL 1000/1. Would one 15" BL powered by the Sundown 1200D get louder? Edited October 21, 200816 yr by Koon

October 21, 200816 yr Author I would not recommend any current Alpine product. The Diamond D6's are pretty much crap and I own both.really? that's surprising cause I've heard nothing but good reviews on the Type R's which is alpine's one sub I've researched a little bit about.
October 22, 200816 yr I would say you hear more good reviews than bad on just about anything. Most people prefer to convince themselves that they like what they purchased. As far as subs go. Anything can sound good in the correct environment. I have installed a fair share of Alpine products over the years and I never understood the hype on the Type R's nor have I ever been a huge fan of their amps. Even Alpines head units have taken a fall.
