Posted November 2, 200816 yr Ok so I checked my ohm load to see if it was really at 1 ohm. My DMM reads 3.1-3 ohms, so I pulled the subs out and tried from the connection. I got 1.5 on one side and 1.5 on the other, with out the jumper. They are 2ohm dvc. So why am I not getting them wired down to 1ohm when I put the jumper on from - to + as it should be? Some one plaese explain this to me. I mean I get that 1.5+1.5 = 3 but shouldn't I get .5+.5=1ohm?Then if it run it like if it was at a half ohm. It reads .8-1.0 ohms thats - jmped to - and + jumped to +Are the dual 4ohm subs? November 2, 200816 yr 2 ohms is a nominal value, the DCR you're measuring with the speaker at rest is going to be different...
November 2, 200816 yr Author Well I got a response on another forum and they said that they are in series, that I am actually doubling the impudence not halving it. So if I jump neg to neg then pos to pos then run them to the amp I will have a 1 ohm load
November 2, 200816 yr Author 2 ohms is a nominal value, the DCR you're measuring with the speaker at rest is going to be different...Right I understand that but at rest they shouldn't sit at 3 ohms anyway they should be much closer to 1 ohm if thats the way they are wired. When I run them - to - and + to+ they sit at .7-1ohm as it should be
November 2, 200816 yr Not sure I am following. And DCR and Impedance are not the same thing btw.So to help you please let us know.What does each coil measure independently?What do they measure the way you have them wired and how are they wired (ie + to + or what)?
November 2, 200816 yr Sounds like the sub wasnt sitting at rest when you measured the resistance....you'll need to make sure nothing is touching the cone/surround of the woofer ( like if you flipped it upside down and set it on a table with the surround touching, it will give a false reading). If its a dual 2 ohm woofer, then you will need to wire the sub in parallel....positive to positive / negative to negative = out to amplifier.

When I run them - to - and + to+ they sit at .7-1ohm as it should beThey're resting at 3ohms because you have them wired in series. wire them in parallel like this (Blue) to be at a 1ohm nominal load at the amp.
