So I will be in the market for new sub woofers and I need some help narrowing/making a choice.

They will be 2 12's

What I'm looking for out of the sub is some thing that will play nicely with the front stage, which will consist of Mach 5 mli65's in the doors and seas 27TFNN's in the pillars being ran active by an 880prs. I'm sure 2 12's will have more then enough output for me so that is not being considered. The subs will start out their life in a sealed enclosure but I would like them to be versatile enough to experiment with different enclosures.

Power available is 1400 ~ 1600 @1ohm and I have no idea at other impedances its a sundown Audio prototype.

Price range looking at 0 to $300 per driver

Some subwoofers that I have been looking at are (in no particular order)

SSA Icon 12's

Incriminator Audio Flatlyne 12s ( They are on sale right now)

Stereo Integrity Magv4 (problem only D2 available so only a 2 ohm load on amp for the pair ~300 to 400 per driver and heard they are a sealed only driver)

SoundSplinter RL-P 12s ( problem only D2 available so only a 2 ohm load on amp for the pair ~300 to 400 per driver)

Mach 5 IXL 12's ( problem only D2 available so only a 2 ohm load on amp for the pair ~300 to 400 per driver)

Diamond Audio D6 ( heard them awhile ago and was surprised by them)

JBL W12GTi Mkii ( D6ohm, Odd ohm load but shouldn't be a problem)

JL Audio 12W6v2 ( Kinda pricey)

Soundstream R1-12L ( Not to much information on these around Also pricey)

Polk Audio SR12 ( havent heard much on them)

Oz Audio Me 12.4 ( could be difficult to find)

If I forgot any information let me know.

Any other suggestions will be taken note of.

ive heard the icons and flatlynes....they both were amazing but id go with the flatlyne

The only woofer I know anything about is the Diamond Audio D6, I ran a pair of D5/D6 10's for over a year and loved them--they're my all-time favorite woofer that I've ever owned. The D5's I ran for a year straight doing spl comps as well as street beating. I ran roughly 1700 watts daily to them with no issues.. the D6's had a fairly short life as I uped my power and toasted them at the first comp I went to (151db on 3400 watts sealed on the dash-street class--they only made the one run)

*the D6's sounded just as good as the D5's for daily--however I only spent 3 months with them.

I ran my pair of 10's in roughly 2.5cubes tuned 30hz for daily... great lows.

reasoning??

The D6's I've heard were pretty loud but again I am not concerned about output they were also crisp on the notes they played. But I really don't know to much of the setup they were in as far as box volume and tuning. I am going to assume that it was a relatively high tuning as it was at a local audio shop and looked to be a prefab box.

Edit: Spelling error bugging me

Out of that list, I would go for the ICONs.

You should check out the Ascendant Audio HAVOC ASCENDANT AUDIO HAVOC LINK

Or A Fi Q. They both sound insanely good in my opinion and have really cheap prices.

Both Fi and AA are viable options but I'm not sure I want to go in that direction.

Out of the list the I have narrowed down some, it was difficult but have cut some out.

The ones left are.

SSA Icon 12's

Incriminator Audio Flatlyne 12s ( They are on sale right now)

SoundSplinter RL-P 12s ( problem only D2 available so only a 2 ohm load on amp for the pair ~300 to 400 per driver)

Diamond Audio D6 ( heard them awhile ago and was surprised by them)

JBL W12GTi Mkii ( D6ohm, Odd ohm load but shouldn't be a problem)

The JBL is on the edge of being cut because of recent information on them not handling over powering (could be a problem when testing different alignments) and trouble of getting a recone, but was told they sound really good. The two dual 2 ohm drivers are on the edge of being cut also for coil options and the RL-p may be a problem for oringinal parts (I know other companies can recone them). The D6 could also be trouble in the reconing department.

The D6 could also be trouble in the reconing department.

D6's cannot be rebuilt by diamond. Fi will/can recone them but you have to send them in to get it done (I checked on it for my blown 10's)

I'd choose ICON for ported or SI Mag v.4 for sealed... but that's just me :D

Hope that helps,

Kelvin

PS: ICON works great sealed too ;)

To me that is more of a reason not to go with D6's

I think my choices are down to Flatlynes or Icons.

I would like to see some Flatlynes. I haven't really heard to awful much about them. I'd like to read a good review ;)

Im going to build an enclosure for my freinds Flatlynes next week, i will tell you how it sounds if that would help.

What direction would that be, that you don't want to take? Both of these drivers have solid rep.

What is wrong with a Havoc?
