Posted December 15, 200816 yr Ok, guys I have a ported enclosure with a 13W7, It hasn't been braced...How much more spl do you think I could gain if I braced it?I'm using 3/4" MDF and I'm driving it with a JBL GTO 14001.
December 15, 200816 yr oh man a 13 w7, just for fair warning you will get bashe don for having it, i like jl alot and it happens all the time just letting you know
December 15, 200816 yr HAHA I was just about to say that. What are you measuring your "spl" with? Are you competing with that driver?Dont quote me, but I would say it would have no audible difference.

December 15, 200816 yr Author There are not too many good sub brands back in my country, unless you like Audiobahn, Fusion, Kenwood... Well Kicker's a good brand but anyways I love my 13W7 and yes it was expensive as hell!
December 15, 200816 yr How much did you pay? USDI bet you could have got a fully loaded btl plus international shipping for cheaper haha
December 15, 200816 yr Author How much did you pay? USDI bet you could have got a fully loaded btl plus international shipping for cheaper hahaBout 1000 USD.I've been hearing a lot from those BTL's. Are they any good? I mean I don't recognize the brand...
December 15, 200816 yr To answer the question, it's impossible to tell whether you'll gain anything from bracing. Every box is different as to its needs for bracing and whether or not the meter will tell a difference. Bracing never hurts, though.

Are they any good? I mean I don't recognize the brand...Yes, Fi car audio makes good sub woofers. I have heard nothing but good things from them. Also it would have costed about half of what you paid for that W7 to get a fully loaded BTL.
December 15, 200816 yr bracing can help alot if placed properly.....any kind of screen door or window bracing that creates any turbulance towards oraway from the port and woofer will show a drop in SPL with a Termlabit makes the biggest difference with low tuned enclosures..the low slow notes are the ones thatcan really flex the enclosure

December 15, 200816 yr bashed on like no one on this forum likes jl they all make fun of people and tell them how much junk it is compared to other brandsFAIL. Seems like a preconceived idea. Who is going to tell you it's junk? Someone who has a boner over the BTL and has never used the product he is bashing ? As far as using the 13w7 as an spl driver...I've seen one score time and time again over 145db. In the recomended box, with "only" 2kw. Was also driven daily with that kind of power for a few years...But I guess preconceived ideas will always exist.

December 15, 200816 yr one should also note that in some cases, any bracing at all will drop a score. be it a second baffle or whatever. completely depends upon vehicle, tuning and build. but thumper's advice is good advice. if building for spl, avoid "window" or "screen door" type bracing. look into dowel rod, all thread or similiar types. and if you go with teh "window" type, a roundover bit is your friend.and the w7 is a good driver. overpriced for what it is, but solid nonetheless.wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

December 15, 200816 yr Author Dowel Rod.Those types of braces I've never seen being used, are those as efficient?
