Hey guys hows it going? I was hoping that ya can help me out. I currently have a daily/SPL setup in my car. I am bumping a pair of Kicker L7 12s with a Alphasonik amp that is feeding them a 1,000 watts each rms. I love my subs but I feel that I need to upgrade. My subs work great in the USACI lanes and I have gotten a offical 148.5 db with them. But I can not use them for daily use. After about 10 -15 I start to smell burnt coils ( Kicker L7s are only rated at 750rms each). So I am looking to get a pair of 12" BLs. My qustion is; what options should I go with in making this sub? Can I use my current box? It is tuned to 30hz and 4.5 cubic ft for each sub.

I am not a hardcore competitor, I just like to compete for the fun of it. So I am leaning more toward a daily setup. Thanks in advance.

If you're burning your coils on the kickers up... that's more due to the fact that you're either clipping the amp, or have the gains set WAY to high.

I'd get that all resolved before you think of putting new subs in. Because you'll only end up burning those up at some point too.

My gain is only set a quarter up. The bass boost is off. I don't think its the amp. I do admit that I have the amp set at 50hz.

umm you say your burning coils up and you dont think its the amp.....

Maybe... Maybe not. I will check my settings again. Maybe not enough current going to the amp? Hey bigjon what part of Texas are you from? Are you getting this nasty freezing rain also?

im just south of austin.. no freezing rain today... it was about an hour north of us this morning.

not enough current to the amp would more likly cause the amp to run hot,

but the coils burning is only a product a few things as johnecon stated.

I live just south of San Antonio. Well when it clears up here I will do some tweaking and testing. But I will still like to upgrade to a set of FI BLs.

Sounds like your clipping.

The BL's would get assloads louder than the l7's.

the bl's are good subs.. i ran 2 15 bl's on a saz 3000d.. they sound great on music and are a solid sub...

Sounds great thanks for the invite. Well I competed in the last couple of sound off comps in San Antonio, most recent was the Texas Heatwave last May. I walked away with 3rd. But I did it for the fun of it so I was happy. But I am more of a street pounder. So I will say music.

i want to start holding sound offs or drags here in san marcos... so perhaps you can bring a few street beater friends and their cars and we can all have fun.
