Posted January 13, 200916 yr I have a new kenwood head unit I'm trying to install.I bought the scosche wiring harness for my toyota tercel at walmart.I ran into a problem, none of the connections on the wiring harness fit into the back of my kenwood cd player.I'm a noob when it comes to this so help me out? Here are some pictures showing the backs of both head units and the factory wires and the scosche wiring harness. The wires that went into the back of the stock head unitThe back of the stock one, see the place to insert the plug?My kenwood doesn't have thatThere is only one place that looks like a harness would go there, but none of them fitHere is the wiring harnessIDK WHAT IM DOINGGGGGGGG
January 13, 200916 yr Use the harness that came with the Kenwood and wire it to the Toyota one color to color.
January 13, 200916 yr Your headunit should have come with it's own plug. All you need to do is match the colors of your headunit wires to the wires on the plugs that fit your factory plugs.
January 13, 200916 yr Author My head unit didn't come with a plug I don't believe...Let me go check the box.edit: ahhhh I forgot I put the plug on my entertainment center. So can I just electrical tape the wires together? color to color? Edited January 13, 200916 yr by ShaneSauce
January 13, 200916 yr Author It did I just found it.How should I install it?I have never done this before and there are allot of colored wires.
January 13, 200916 yr Wire the harnesses color to colorUse the factory brackets that on the factory radioAnd use the factory pocketYou wont need the Kenwood trim ring or cage
January 13, 200916 yr Take your time to make sure that you are matching the red to red, purple to purple, etc. I would solder all wire connections then tape them.
January 13, 200916 yr Author But I don't have a solder.I'm thinking about shredding some of the rubber off around the wire and just twisting them together and taping them.
January 13, 200916 yr Author I got it installed! But its just sitting behind the trim panel, there is nothing holding it in place. There is nowhere to screw it down or anything. But now there is a giant gap.I need a dash kit, I'm gonna go pick one up at walmart. Will this fix my problem?
January 13, 200916 yr From your picture it looks like a double DIN. You will need a dash kit, if that's the case (or depending on how skilled you are you can make a plate). You should also have a cage of some sort to slide your CD player into. Just search on Google for that to show what I mean.
January 14, 200916 yr Did you use the factory brackets and the factory pocket from the factory radio?I've never used a dash kit in a tercel.....
