So yeah, I recently found out that the song is clipped right off of the C.D. It really disappoints me because I really like listening to the song, is there anything I can do when I play my sub after its installed, to not hurt it? I don't want to mess with the gain after its set, so would turning down the tilt work?

Like its recorded at +(#) db above 0?

A clipped signal won't inherently damage your subs. As long as the sub is getting the same power as an unclipped signal, it doesn't matter. So the only difference is that maybe you only need to turn the head unit volume to 28 instead of 30 to get full volume. But there's also the degraded sound quality. But that doesn't hurt subs either, it just sounds worse.

i have a few songs that are that way.. i just play a lil lower

nah its true.. im not in agreement with EVERY year they make it louder.. but certinly it depends who maters the CD's..
