Would 2 12" Mayhem's be ok in 2.742 cubes and on a Sound Stream xxx-6500d at 1 ohms?? I was worried about the box being to big I am only about a 1/4 to 1/2 up on gain right now on two Mass Destruction Napalm's and they sound good but are really made for a smaller box..

2.7 for both, or each?

sealed or ported?

Gain setting is not a volume control. . .you could easily be getting full power out of that amp even at that setting. . .depends on your preout voltage.

It s 2.742 each

Ported to 40

Yea I know, I tested this and thats why it's 1/4 to 1/2 not wide open.. ;) I set the volume to 20 every time I setup my system to help tune it seems to work.

But man these things are LOUD I am not saying thats a bad thing for sure, but I just don't want to see them go up in flames due to a huge box. The info I have says 400wrms 1000 ( something ) then 3000max I know not to look at the max but from everything I can find these things can take a pounding.

arent mayhems 2500 rms?

I run mine on 4000+ each without any problems.

Just did a pair of them on a sound stream XXX-10000D and they will take more, no problem.

2.7 should not hurt, but 40 Hz tuning is a little high unless you have a subsonic filter and it is set correctly.

Damn and i was worried about hurting them on the 6500d.. ;)

I did not know anyone else was using these any more.. Nice to see there not total chit.. lol

I just installed them today so not a lot of time to play with them yet and trying to take it easy but man they are loud as chit it may be due to the 40Hz tuning, I mean it does not sound bad but do you think it would sound better if I lowered it? The box has 3 4" areo ports how would I lower the tuning now if I wanted to? Add a port or plug a port?

I want to compete with this setup or something very close any idea what close this puts you in?

Adding length to the port would be the best thing to do. you could plug one of the ports but that will decrease your overall port area and create more port noise at lower frequecies. adding a port of the same length would increase your tuning

Cool I have about 4 inches from back of the ports to back of the box now I think I can go back 2 more inches on each port 3 4" ports. How could I tell what that would bring me down to? If I do 1" more thats 3 inch total more and 2" more is 6" more port over all. What would be the best one to do? Yea since I only have 3 I think plugging one might not be a good idea.

if your that close to the back now i dont think there is enough room to go back further. but i cant remember if the rule is to keep the distance from the back to port the same as the diameter or half the diameter

What are you putting this into??? That would be really loud in a hatch back.

Adding 1-3" in that port setup is not going to make a noticable difference. And as already stated, you need to keep the 4" to the back of the box.

Plug one of the ports and see what you think about the sound at a moderate volume. If you like it, you may have to rebuild the box, or add port length with the ports extended outside of the box.
